Battle Creek Quick Updates
4/25/2025
Greetings Battle Creek Families,
We are officially started the count down to the end of the school year for our students, especially our 8th graders. We only have 31 school days left of the school year. Most of the 8th graders have been with us since they were in 6th Grade and we’ve watched them grow and mature into wonderful and responsible teenagers. Most are excited about high school and all the opportunity that awaits but there are those that are a little reluctant. However, we hope that we have provided all the essential knowledge, skills and critical thinking that they need to be successful in high school and beyond.
With only 31 days, we still have a lot of events & field trips planned. Follow us on social media for up-to-date post of events happening. Another place to keep up with our current event is to look at our school/family calendar here: https://bcms.spps.org/about/calendar
Upcoming Events:
May 2 – Join us for the last Coffee with the Principal from 9:00 - 10:00 am. Principal Yang will discuss the proposed budget that was approved by the district, go over school plans, get your feedback, and answered any questions you have. It is the last one with lots to go over don’t miss it. We would also love to hear from parents/guardians about what went well and what didn’t for your family this year.
May 6 – The Flipside Showcase from 3:30 - 5:00 pm – This is the end of the year showcase for students who have been working hard on their project in their Flipside Class. Come see what they’ve been working on. There will be performances, demonstration of skills and display of finished projects. Mr. Jake will also provide a light dinner.
May 8 – 5K Fun Run Family Event – This is one of our biggest events and we’re so excited to bring it back! One new change this year is we are required to have parent permission for students to participate in the run. Parents and siblings who join us for the run do not need to fill out the form. If you do not plan to join us at all, please note that your student will need to be picked up by 6:00 pm.
May 16 – Talent Show hosted by Dare 2 Be Real. Come see all the talents of Battle Creek, students and teachers alike. Show will be from 3:30-4:30 pm. There will be a $1 cover charge. There will also be snacks for sale in the commons area outside of the auditorium. Make sure your student is picked by 5:00 pm.
May 23 – Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. You’re invited to attend the show in your Asian heritage outfit. There will also be a sampling of Asian food after the show.

June 5 from 10:00 - 11:30 am is the 8th Grade Celebration. It will be held in the auditorium. Friendly reminder that balloons are not allowed into the auditorium. Thank you for understanding. If you want to take your student home after the ceremony, please stop by the main office and sign out your student.
There may still be other events in the works. Please follow us on social media for the most current events happening at BCMS.
If you or someone you know owns a good variety food truck and would like to vend at this event, please contact Ms. See at see.vang@spps.org for more information.
We are also looking for parents to volunteer at this event, primarily to supervise the run to make sure all participants are safe along the parameters of the course. If you're interested, please contact Ms. See at see.vang@spps.org.
