Greetings Battle Creek Families,
We hope your family enjoyed a much-needed Winter break. It’s good to be back at school with routines and a set schedule. This week, we are easing back into school. We are reviewing school work and school expectations. Most of our students are excited to get back into the classroom and be learning.
With Winter break behind us, we are looking forward to many upcoming events planned for the remainder of the school year. We are already working on several things for January. Check out our upcoming events:
Flipside Showcase – Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm
This event is for all our Flipside students to showcase what they’ve learned/done in their Flipside classes from crochet to K-pop and cooking classes. Come see your student showcase their art, skills and talents.
History Day Showcase – Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 9:00 – 3:00 pm
See the notes below from your Social Studies teacher below for details.
Check what period your student has Social Studies class so you can attend while your student is present with their board. All boards will be on display throughout the day, but you may want to see it when your student’s class is present.
Winter Open House – Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm
This is an Open House for prospective students interested in attending BCMS in the Fall. If you have younger students who will be attending BCMS, this is your chance to see the school.
Coffee with the Principal – Friday, January 31, 2025 from 9:00 – 10:00 am
Come in and enjoy a cup of coffee with Principal Yang. She will be covering school updates, the School Continuous Improvement Plan, and answer any questions you may have.

Hello 6th & 7th grade families!
We are writing today to share some awesome updates for 6th & 7th grade social studies! The Social Studies and ELA departments are excited to announce our 2025 History Day Showcase event! This showcase celebrates our students who have created some fantastic research projects. They have been working on their projects for over a month, and we would like to invite you all to celebrate their achievements and learn about what they have researched!
When: Thursday January 23, 2025
While all poster boards will be up throughout the day, your student will be present during their Social Studies hour. Please check their schedule if you would like to attend while they are present.
Where: The upper gym of BCMS
What: 6th & 7th grade Social Studies students will be by their tri-fold boards during their class period to present their projects to visiting classes, staff, and families. Students who opted to compete will have their projects judged for a chance to advance to our regional competition.
Please feel free to stop by and support your superstar student and celebrate their big accomplishment with them!

High School Open House for your current 8th grader
8th grade trip to Washington DC, April 2025
Calling all families of 8th grade Panthers! Would you like your child to experience the trip of a lifetime? Are they interested in seeing new things? Send them on the Washington, D.C. Trip this April with Mr. Raboin and Ms. Kildahl! If you missed our informational meeting, you can see the slides we presented here. We talked about the itinerary, the logistics, and the fundraising aspects of our trip. Feel free to check out our trip website, where you can enroll your child in the trip. Mr. Gwin's Mastery Award
The Mastery Award is for scholars who have perfect score on the unit exams. Many scholars declare they will be next to be a part of the Mastery Awards. This is by far the most difficult exam. Congratulation these four scholars.

Weekend Food Bag
Interested in getting a free bag of food every Friday through the Every Meal program? If so, sign up today. You can enroll or opt out at anytime. No private information will be collected. No qualification required. Anyone can sign up.

Parent's Right to Know
PARENT’S RIGHT TO KNOW TEACHER AND PARAPROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Under the Every Student Succeeds Act, parents have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of their student’s classroom teachers and paraprofessionals. Parents who would like to receive this information should write to the Human Resource Department, Attn: ESSA Teacher Qualifications, Saint Paul Public Schools, 360 Colborne Street, Saint Paul, MN 55102-3299. You have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child’s classroom teacher(s).
- Information about whether the teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
- Information about whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived;
- Information about whether the teacher is teaching (subjects or content) in which proper certification is held by the teacher.
- Information about whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
