Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we begin a new trimester and welcome the arrival of spring, we look forward to fresh opportunities for growth, learning, and success. With the change in season comes a renewed sense of energy, making it a great time for students to set new goals and embrace challenges with confidence.
Please encourage your child to stay engaged, take advantage of available resources, and reach out for support when needed.
We look forward to another great trimester and the bright days ahead!
Mrs. Atkins
From the Desk of Mrs. Wiley
The new trimester has begun!!!! I know sometimes it's difficult concentrating during this trimester with nice weather, spring sports/activities and the thought of summer, but please continue to work hard and stay on top of your classes. Check out the Academic Assistance calendar for additional help in classes. Let me know if you need any assistance.
Mrs. Wiley
A Note from Ms. Hanson
Dear Seniors,
Once again, we are honoring and highlighting each and every senior from the graduating class of 2025. Each school day, two seniors will be highlighted on the Swan Valley School Districts FB page and on our Live Feed on the website. The first senior is highlighted at 7:00 am and the second senior is highlighted at 11:00 am. Seniors are picked at random. Be sure to get your senior picture submitted to your yearbook class if you haven’t turned it in already. I hope you enjoy being celebrated!
Have a great week!
Ms. Hanson
Words from a Cop
I’ve gotten this question a lot since being your SRO. Officer Maxwell what do I do during a traffic stop? First things first, keep your hands in sight. Police officers are trained to watch hands. Any kind of unnecessary movement makes police officers nervous. When you are nervous do you get defensive? So do police. Keep your hands on the steering wheel, until the officer asks for your information. He/She will ask you for 3 pieces of information: driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of vehicle insurance. It is important to have those items readily available in your vehicle. Did you know you can receive a citation for not having that information in your car? After that exchange of information, the officer should inform you the reason why the traffic stop was made. If not, ask politely. Remember respect goes both ways. The officer may ask a series of questions.
IT IS A POLICE OFFICERS RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK QUESTIONS. If you choose to answer such questions, keep it short. Don’t give any more than the question is asking for. The officer will then go back to his vehicle. This is when your driving record and other history is looked up. This may be a deciding factor for the officer whether a ticket is appropriate, or not. Remember the officer should take everything into account; the infraction of the stop, your behavior, and past encounters with police. If you are issued a citation, the side of the road is not the place to argue. That is what court is for. As always, honesty is the best policy, especially during traffic stops.
Your honesty may save you a couple hundred bucks someday.
Stay safe, stay vigilant

Notes from the Nurse.....
Already this season, we are seeing an increase in pneumonia cases.
Pneumonia is a respiratory infection in which the air sacs in the lungs become inflamed and filled with fluid or pus, making it difficult and painful to breathe. It can be caused by a bacteria, virus, or fungus. Pneumonia is often the consequence of a COVID or influenza infection. It is spread through respiratory droplets in the air or from touching contaminated services and then touching our faces (nose, mouth, eyes), similar to the way other respiratory infections are spread. Symptoms include fever, dry cough, headaches, body aches and weakness. However, instead of feeling better within a few days, symptoms worsen and may include chest pain, shortness of breath, a rapid heart rate, shaking/chills and/or a blueish tint to the lips and nailbeds. Pneumonia can be diagnosed per chest xray, sputum sample or blood cultures. Treatment includes antibiotics (for pneumonia caused by bacteria), bronchodilators (to help ease breathing), fluids and LOTS OF REST!! A person with pneumonia may remain contagious for up to 48 hours after starting an antibiotic and fever has stopped, and it may take from one week to one month before full recovery. Untreated pneumonia can lead to a lung abscess, sepsis and ultimately respiratory failure. Some of the infections that can lead to pneumonia can be prevented with vaccines. These include the flu vaccine, the pneumococcal vaccines, and the COVID vaccine. Meticulous hand washing, cough etiquette and immunizations are the best public health measures we can take to keep ourselves and those around us healthy this season!
