Pleasant Valley Family Newsletter
December 13, 2024

Hello PV Families,
Happy Friday! We’ve had another fantastic week here at PV. This week, we conducted Winter Benchmark assessments for Math and Reading. For students who were absent, there will be opportunities to complete makeup assessments next week.
We want to emphasize the importance of daily attendance unless your child is sick. Please refer to the nurse’s guidelines below for advice on when to send students to school and when to keep them home.
A Big Thank You to Our Families!
Our arrival and dismissal process has improved tremendously! Thank you all for following the guidelines and helping ensure an efficient and, most importantly, safe process for all our students.
Student Profiles:
Thank you to everyone who has completed the Student Profile! If you haven’t done so yet, please use this link.
Culture Night/International Mother Language Night:
We will be joining our sister Elementary Schools by combining our annual Culture Night with International Mother Language Day. The broader celebration of culture invites everyone (whether your Mother Language is English, Spanish, Tamil, Akan, Telugu, etc) to participate. Our PTO Secretary Mrs. Vimal has shared a Google Form to help us organize this exciting event. We want everyone to be involved!
Please continue reading the newsletter for more updates and exciting upcoming events, including: the amazing efforts of our Girls on the Run students and coaches who volunteered over the weekend to create over 38 blankets for donation; PV students participating in Sun Salutations during gym classes; PV being proudly represented at the Wolf Pack game; and highlights from our afterschool STEM program.
Finally, there will be NO school on Monday in celebration and recognition of the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968) was a Baptist minister and civil rights leader whose unwavering commitment to nonviolent resistance transformed the fight for racial equality in the United States. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, King rose to prominence during the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955, which became a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement. He led pivotal efforts such as the Birmingham Campaign, the March on Washington, where he delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, and the Selma to Montgomery marches, contributing to landmark legislation like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. A vocal advocate for justice, peace, and economic equality, King’s life was tragically cut short when he was assassinated in 1968. His legacy endures as a symbol of hope, courage, and the enduring struggle for justice. As he once said, ""I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and a Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day!
Gratefully,
Esther & Jenna
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run met on Saturday, January 11th, to make blankets for Project Linus. Project Linus was a schoolwide fundraiser that Girls on the Run did in late November. Through their efforts, they were able to make 38 blankets! What an amazing job, we are so proud of all of you.
