Thank you to everyone who came out to OUR STEM NIGHT!!
Horace W. Porter hosted the second annual STEM Night. STEM Night aims to promote access to innovative learning experiences and STEM-based concepts through community partnerships. This year's theme was environmental sustainability and clean energy. Dr. Patricia Szczys from Eastern Connecticut State University kicked off the event with a presentation on sustainability related to local agricultural practices and new technological advancements to support food production. There were almost 30 stations and several community organizations, including The Friends of Mono Pond, the Columbia Historical Society, Joshua's Trust, and Salmon in Schools.
a Visitor in Mrs. Hall's Class
Today Mr. C, one of our school resource officers, visited our classroom to talk about his role here at HWP school. He showed the students the tools he uses for his job and passed out badges to everyone! The purpose of this visit was for students to feel safe and know that SROs (school resource officers) are people in our school building that they can trust, Mr. C even offered to let students wear a safety vest!
Stem Lab fun in Mrs. Traber's Class
Mrs. Traber's class had the opportunity to work in the STEM lab to test household items to see which ones would react to an acid. We tested baking soda, a purple liquid made from beans, and baking powder. Each sample was tested with both water and vinegar, and our results were recorded.
