Yearbook Orders
June will be here before we know it! Did your child give you their yearbook order form? They each should have received one; but we have extras in the office if it got lost in transit. Order forms are due by Monday, February 4th. Yearbooks will be distributed at the beginning of June; and students will be given time to sign each others.
New Year = New Email addresses for Howard-Suamico School District Staff
Starting December 26, 2018 all HSSD email addresses will end with a new extension: @hssdschools.org and our website address will also become www.hssdschools.org. During the transition, former email addresses (ending in @hssd.k12.wi.us) will work for a limited time to receive email. We will be testing the new addresses in early January to double check that emails aren’t caught up in recipients’ spam filters. Stay tuned for updates after the holidays.
January is National Mentor Month!
Do you have any old children's magazines you would be willing to donate?
Do you have old children magazines such as Highlights, Kids Sports Illustrated or Boys Life magazines sitting around the house? If so, we would love to take them off your hands to use them here at school. Please drop off any donations in the school office. Thank you for your consideration.
A note from your School Board Representative
New Year, A Closer look into the HSSD School Board
As 2018 comes to a close, the Howard-Suamico School Board wants to thank you for your continued trust and support. As we prepare to bring in a new year, we want to make sure you are clear on the School Board’s role, our mission and ensure you have the visibility, aka transparency, you deserve.
School Board Role
The Board of Education acts as a whole, not as seven individuals, to ensure the success of every child through clear, concise direction to the superintendent as well as rigorous monitoring to ensure accountability. The board charges the superintendent to focus every staff member and all resources toward a single goal - student achievement. The superintendent receives direction from the board and authorizes the staff to implement practices, programs and activities that will provide the best education possible. This approach allows the Board to focus its time and energy on facilitating a successful school district.
Board Mission
The mission of the Howard-Suamico School District Board of Education is to enact policies and allocate resources to develop all students' full academic potential and to promote their social and emotional growth.

Ellis Island Simulation
As part of our 3rd grade Immigration Unit, all third grade students will be participating in our Ellis Island simulation being held in the library on Thursday, February 28 from 8:50-10:35. We are looking for volunteers to play the part of the inspectors. Duties include posing questions to our families and reviewing their paperwork to ensure they enter our country legally. Your parts are scripted. We encourage you to dress for the part you are assigned and have fun. Our goal is to have the students experience first hand the feelings that immigrant families may have felt as they entered the United States. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Mrs. Michelle Wick, Library Media Specialist, at michwick@hssd.k12.wi.us or 920.662.5091.
If you are not yet approved to volunteer, please complete the volunteer application as soon as possible for timely processing.
