Kia ora families
You will have probably heard in the media that the National Government now require all schools to teach 'structured literacy' approaches. Onekawa School is in the very fortunate position to have been teaching using 'The Science of Reading' and the 'structured literacy' approach for the last five years. We welcome this move requiring all schools being required to implement this approach.
Next Friday night Team Pipi is hosting their Trivia Night at the Onekawa School Hall. This promises to be a really enjoyable evening. The funds raised will go towards fixing up the junior playground. Details for the evening are in the poster below.
I want to say a big welcome to our new Caretaker, Mr Jack Stratton, who began on Monday. Many of our families and children already know Jack from School's Out where he has worked for many years as a caregiver. We are delighted to have Jack on board. Welcome Jack! (photo below).
Have an awesome weekend!

Steve

Here is a cool story of how Braxton was invited for an airport tour!
Last week me and my brother got invited to have a tour behind the scenes at Hawkes Bay Airport. The reason we got invited is because we usually bike there every week from Kennedy Rd, and we both want to be pilots. We got a tour of the fire station. At the fire station we got to sit in the fire truck, looked around the truck, and even looked at the engine. We went behind the scenes to see where the luggage goes, and where the luggage truck goes. We even got a special drive along the runway. Then we got a close up view from Foxtrot, which is a grass runway out the back of the airport. After all that, we went into most of the staff only places, like the staff lounge and the locker rooms. The tour was amazing and we felt very lucky.
