IHCS Mariners: Let’s Finish Strong in 2024
Dear IHCS Staff and Mariner Families,
As we approach the final 15 days of school for 2024, let’s come together to finish strong. These three weeks are a golden opportunity to make a lasting impact on our students’ growth before the well-deserved three-week winter break.
Every day counts. Let’s work together to ensure our students are here, ready to learn and grow. For our staff, this means bringing passion and dedication to every lesson and interaction. For our families, it means encouraging your children to give their best each day. By working together and using every available resource, we create an environment where every student has the best chance to thrive.
Let’s embrace the rhythm of these final weeks. Bring your best when it’s time to teach, learn, or support one another, and take time to rest and recharge so we’re ready to give our all the next day. This balance sustains our energy and models resilience for our students.
When we work together to get students to school, teach them well, and send them home to families who reinforce learning through reading, support, and rest, we create a powerful cycle of growth and success.
Stay the course, Mariners. Believe in the daily work we’re doing together. Let’s finish 2024 with strength, unity, and purpose, setting the stage for an even brighter 2025.
With gratitude and determination,
Mr. Candelaria
On behalf of your dedicated admin team: Mrs. Barry, Mr. Castro, and Mr. Candelaria

Mayor’s Tree Cheer Project: The City of Perris invited our students to participate in the Mayor’s Tree Cheer Project. Project. The city provided each participating school with a 6-foot high wood carved Christmas tree and supplies for students to design and paint. The city will then be installing these painted wood carved trees within select street medians in Perris in time for the upcoming holiday season. The city will then store and reinstall these trees each year. Our IHCS Tree will be installed along Perris Boulevard during the holiday season. Thank you Mrs. Testa and the IHCS art class for the beautiful holiday art contribution to the Perris community.
Celebrate Student Success/English Language Development: Mrs. Barry meets with a family to review the reclassification process and our newest IHCS Mariner to meet all of the criteria to reclassify to English Proficient status! Reclassification is the process whereby a student is reclassified from English Learner status to Fluent English Proficient status. Reclassification can take place at any time during the academic year, immediately upon the student meeting all criteria. Thank you to all of our IHCS staff, parents and students for the continued daily effort to reclassify all of our students. English Language Development is important and equally important is continuing the development of our first language. Way to go Mariners!
Mariner Family, why is morphology important? Academic Coach, Mrs. Markham, teaches a morphology lesson to sixth graders. Teaching sixth graders morphology is essential for developing vocabulary, reading comprehension, and critical thinking. Understanding prefixes, suffixes, and root words helps students decode unfamiliar terms, improving their ability to tackle complex texts in subjects like science and history. This skill also enhances spelling, writing, and engagement with academic vocabulary such as "photosynthesis" or "circumference."
Morphology instruction benefits all learners, including English language learners, by providing clear strategies for understanding language. Beyond academics, it fosters independence and curiosity, equipping students with lifelong tools for decoding words. By integrating explicit instruction, real-world applications, and engaging activities, educators build a strong foundation for middle school success and beyond. Play with words and continue to read.
Family Thanksgiving Feast: Thank you to all of our parents, students, and staff for an awesome Thanksgiving Feast celebration. Thank you to our cafeteria staff and the parent volunteers who supported our cafeteria servers and for also decorating our cafeteria to look so nice. To our front office staff and Mr. Ramos for assisting parents as they entered our campus to celebrate, and to our COFA, Ms. Quiroz, for assisting parents and decorating, and to Sergio and Carlos for your hard work to make this event so nice. Mrs. Barry and Mr. Castro, thank you for giving up your lunch time to return to support this special event and celebrate with our IHCS community. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Friday Flag Celebration: Our Friday Flag celebration included a special performance from our 4th grade class and a celebration of so many WAVE award winners. Continue to be Welcoming to each other, and being courageous as we Achieve together. Continue to show Virtue by making strong choices and strive for Excellence in all that we do in this world. Keep shining Mariner Family.
