DISTRICT NEWS
Avondale Student Feature: Brooklyn Woods
This summer, Brooklyn Woods, 8th grader at Avondale Middle School, showcased her remarkable talents and dedication, both on the track and in the classroom when she qualified for and competed in the 2024 Junior Olympics.
Brooklyn competed with the Oakland County Track Hawks at a Regional Competition, held at Detroit Renaissance High School. She made an impressive debut in the long jump—her first time ever attempting the event without any prior training. Despite it being her first attempt at the event, she excelled and qualified for the Junior Olympics in Greensboro, NC! While she didn't advance to the finals, Brooklyn's performance was commendable, highlighting her potential as a young athlete.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Brooklyn dedicated four weeks of her summer to attend OU's Math Corps, a rigorous summer math program. This commitment not only strengthened her skills but also earned her a plaque for exceptional achievement.
Brooklyn’s drive and determination are inspiring, and her accomplishments this summer are just the beginning of what promises to be a bright future. Congratulations, Brooklyn!
