Frontier Schools Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Throughout the month, Frontier is celebrating the cultural diversity of our Hispanic/Latinx students, families and staff with educational and fun lessons and activities.

On Friday, September 23rd, FSI Elementary students, staff, and families honored all cultures represented within the Frontier family with a cultural food and traditional clothing celebration. The student's pride in this was uplifting and helped reinforce one of our core values: that character matters.

At FSI Middle, 5th grade students are working on a Hispanic Heritage biography project and their also making posters as part of their Social Studies Unit. 6th - 8th grade students are helping staff decorate their bulletin board.

During October, Frontier STEM High School and Frontier School of Excellence will celebrate with a Hispanic Heritage Spirit Week.

School Food Pantries at Frontier Schools!

We are excited to announce that Frontier Schools is participating in the school food pantry cohort in partnership with Harvesters and SchoolSmartKC! The School Pantry Program is a free food pantry conveniently located on-site at each of our school buildings. The pantry will provide additional access to food for children and their families after the school day has ended.

Parent Teacher Conferences

On September 29th, Frontier Schools held district-wide Parent Teacher Conferences. Students along with their parents met with teachers and staff on an individual basis to discuss student performance and ideas for improvement.

September Professional Development

On September 30th, Frontier Schools staff and administrators participated in Professional Development training to expand continuous student learning alongside teacher growth. Professional Development provides teachers and administrators an opportunity to foster new skills and techniques that they can apply in the classroom.

Alumni Spotlight!

We are always proud of the amazing work of Frontier alumni. Our spotlight highlights the work of alumni who are using their talents to make a difference.

This month's Alumni Spotlight features Mara Grijalva, 2020 graduate from Frontier School of Excellence. Mara is currently working as a 4th and 5th grade tutor at FSI-Middle. Mara hopes to go to college one day to pursue an education degree.

Many Fall sports are underway at Frontier Schools and the season is off to a great start for all teams. Please come out and support your team! They would love to see their fans there in person to help cheer them on!

After School Clubs

There are many opportunities for students to get involved in after school clubs, such as: Advanced Research Club, Gateway Readers' Club, Girls on the Run Club, Health Occupations Students of America Club, Writer's Workshop Club, Math Club, Fishing Club, Cooking Club, I.T. Club, Kindness Club, Art & Craft Club, Video Game Design Club, Chess Club, Fitness Club, Environmental Club, etc.

FSHS Students Visit Burns & McDonnell

On September 9th, the FSHS Engineering Design and Development class attended a PLTW Senior Capstone Workshop at Burns & McDonnell. During the workshop, Burns & McDonnell's engineers shared their experiences and other relevant information with students. They discussed strategies for finding new projects, developing new solutions, team mentoring, and design thinking & ideation.

Thank you for hosting this event, Burns & McDonnell! This was a great experience for our students.

PBIS Pajama Day!

FSI Elementary students have been working super hard to be safe, be respectable and be responsible in the hallways. All of their hard work earned them a school-wide pajama party on September 16th. Keep up the great work, Tiger Cubs!

Tiger Store at FSI Elementary

FSI Elementary celebrates students who maintain good behavior throughout the week. Students use their PBIS tickets at the school's Tiger Store. The Tiger Store is a mini store where students can exchange their PBIS tickets for fun toys and trinkets as a reward for positive behavior. Way to go Tigers!

College Visits

Frontier School of Excellence and Frontier STEM High School participate in several college visits throughout the year. During their visit, students learn about the academic programs offered, campus activities, the admissions process, financial aid, and how to apply for scholarships.

Home Visits

Teachers and school staff have visited 203 students in 167 homes since the start of the 2022-23 school year.

Home visits are paramount in bridging cultural gaps that might exist. These visits also provide opportunities for staff to understand their students better by visiting them in their home environments.
