Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
May 10, 2024
We had a fabulous Teacher Appreciation Week at The Lab! Our teachers and staff certainly felt the community's sense of gratitude this week. Thank you to everyone who contributed in small or large ways to make this a special week.
We had many highlights this week. Our 5th graders took a trip to Philadelphia and Mrs. Levy's kindergarteners had their trip to the BMA. On Thursday, we hosted special guests and celebrated the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School award with a whole school assembly. It was fantastic to see the well-deserved sense of pride and community across the faces of our students and staff. Thursday afternoon, our wonderful partners from Goucher College treated our students to a Book Grab and all students and staff to Kona Ice!
It has certainly been a week to remember here at Lutherville!
Next week has two important calendar reminders. Tuesday May 14th is Election Day. Schools are closed. Friday May 17th BCPS has set as a day of asynchronous learning for students and professional learning for staff. The building is not open for students on May 17th. Teachers will post materials in Schoology for students and take attendance through Schoology login tracking. You will get additional information from your child's teacher.
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb
Calendar Reminders:
5/14 -- Schools Closed
5/17 -- Asynchronous Learning Day
5/21 -- Spring Concert
5/24 -- Sports Day (Gr 3-5) - Volunteers Needed! See below.
Green Ribbon School Celebration
On Thursday of this week we were so glad to celebrate our award as a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School!
We hosted Maryland State Senator Shelly Hettleman, who presented the school with a citation noting our accomplishment, visitors from the Maryland State Department of Education, who also offered their congratulations, and special guests.
Our Steel Drum Band played some favorites on their recycled oil drums, the students enjoyed a video of their explanations of what makes us a Green School put together by Mrs. McGee and Mr. Boyd, and a slideshow of the practices and programs they carry out that makes our school special. We thanked Miss L and Miss Mary for their support of composting in the cafeteria, Tom from Trout in the Classroom for his support of that program, and Lisa Reagle for her family's efforts in obtaining the 21 trees planted on our campus last year.
And of course, we thanked our teachers and staff, whose efforts and willingness to go above and beyond is what make these award winning practices possible.
