School District 57
From the Desk of the Superintendent

March 15, 2024
Dear District 57 Families,
Ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students is a priority we share as a community. Together, we strive to create an environment where every child feels secure, valued, and included. Below are some safety efforts that our district has in place or is currently implementing.
We have a See Something, Say Something commitment in our district. If a student, parent, staff, or community member wants to make a report related to a safety concern or incident, they can do so by emailing or calling their principal directly or by using this link to the District 57 School Safety Reporting form, which is received by administrators who can follow up on reports. You can also locate this form on the District 57 website under the “Families” tab.
Students and families in Illinois also have access to the 24-hour mental health crisis line resource, Safe2Help. If you or someone you know needs help or wants to discuss mental health concerns, please use the following information:
Dial 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
Text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line
Contact Safe2Help Illinois: Dial 844-4-SAFEIL, Text SAFE2 (72332), email HELP@Safe2HelpIL.com
Students in 4th-8th grade have learned about Safe2Help Illinois and our School Safety Reporting Form.
The Mount Prospect Police Department provides Officer Safety sessions for our students. This year, the sessions provided to students in kindergarten, fourth, and sixth grade included age-appropriate information about gun safety to empower our students with knowledge on how to respond if they encounter firearms. The students learn that when coming across a weapon, we: Stop, Don’t touch, Get away, and Tell an adult.
Safe firearm storage is a crucial step in safeguarding our community, including our school premises, against potential harm. By securely storing firearms, we can significantly reduce the risk of incidents and accidents involving children and adolescents. Firearm-related incidents are indeed a concern nationwide, encompassing various types of injuries and tragedies. It is essential for us all to be proactive in addressing this issue by promoting responsible firearm storage practices. Here is a safe storage fact sheet with some simple yet effective measures recommended for safe firearm storage, which can greatly contribute to minimizing the risk of firearm-related incidents within our community.
Thank you for your partnership with District 57 as we remain steadfast in supporting safety for our students, staff, and community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Gorr
