Mental Health Check In
When did I last celebrate myself:
Am I well rested?
When was the last time I washed?
Have I been kind to myself?
What recurring thoughts am I having today?
What can I do to make myself smile today?
How am I feeling?
When was the last time I ate something?
Am I thirsty?
Do I need to talk about my feelings?
How long have I spent on my phone today?
When was the last time I went outside?
Hello Folks; and welcome to the 2nd edition of Dorm Happenings here from KSB. We are into our third week here on campus, and let me tell you it has been a " HOT ONE" temperatures in the upper 90"s and no breeze blowing and as my grand-daddy use to say, no " air stirring today". But even as the heat continues and the grass keeps turning brown, we continue to get things done here at the Howser dorm on the beautiful but dry KSB campus.
New Staff Introduction: We want to give a warm KSB Wildcat Welcome to the newest member of our Howser Dorm staff is Ms. Zanetta Brimm from the great state of Illinois and the small hometown of Anna with a population of 5400 people( That deserves a Hee-Haw Corn Field Salute) Sorry, I am showing my age and interest as a younger man. Ms. Z describes it as "Mayberry". Lived there for 30 years before moving to Kentucky. Zanetta has been in Louisville Kentucky ever since. Is a proud mom and a nana with 2 grandsons. Ms. Z is an avid lover of wildlife and fosters many animals as the need arises. Ms. Z has a varied background in traveling to many places ,but her favorite place of travel was Chicago. She met some great people and was glad to be in the constant shuffle of moving parts and people in busy Chicago. Ms. Z enjoys working with the KSB students as a Student Development Assistant on second shift as she has already been an integral positive influence on our dorm students and enjoys the teaching moments of each child, she encounters to help them be successful. Her advice to the students, Is Live Life to the fullest and do not allow obstacles to stand in your way on goal achievement. We are blessed to have Ms. Zanetta Brimm is working with our students and staff here in the Howser dorm.
We welcomed all of our students back on campus Sunday afternoon and had a great meal of chicken and dumplings prepared by yours truly and Mr. Rhodes our recreation leader, it was a meal fit for a king and prepared by the " Swedish Chef's ". If you ever seen the Muppet Show, you will surely appreciate that analogy. It must of been pretty good, because we had no left overs. We have had to make many changes this week due to the heat and heat advisory, but we still made the best of a bad situation. On Monday we had events in the recreation gym with bicycles, billiards, bouncy mat and pop a shot and scooters and the food game. The students had a great time in multiple events. On Tuesday we got an excellent chance to cool off after supper time with a trip to the Comfy Cow for Ice Cream and treats. As we say in the paper back home " A Good Time was Had by all". On Wednesday evening, we had to make another change in schedule with the heat and threat of thunderstorm we had to change up to Independent Dorm games and activities in the dorm basement recreation area after supper time. On Thursday the dorm students celebrated birthday party for all birthdays in July and August. We were treated to cake and ice cream from our recreation director and staff. It has been a long and hot week, but we have had a productive week, and want to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Labor Day weekend and remember we will return to the dorm on Monday September 2nd and school will be back in session on Tuesday Sept. 3rd.
Until Next Time.
