JL Simpson MS - 7th Grade Science Field Trip
The 7th grade Science classes will be going on a field trip to the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC.
Students in Ms. Keefer, Ms. Masiya, and Ms. Pruden's Science classes will be doing research on their chosen animal for a unit study project due at the end of February. Students will have the opportunity to observe their project animal in it's natural habitat, taking pictures and notes as they gather information for their projects.
DATES AND TIMES
- All students that have Ms. Keefer and Ms. Masiya will attend on Wednesday, February 26
- All students that have Ms. Pruden will attend on Thursday, February 27
- Busses will depart JLS at 9:30 AM, returning to JLS AT 2:00 PM
- Cost: FREE
Lunch Details
All students will bring their lunch on the field trip. There is not an option to purchase food from vendors at the National Zoo, so students are not to bring money. To align with museum policy, with the exception of medical needs, all food will be left on the bus and will be consumed prior to coming back to Simpson.
Two options for lunch:
Bring a bagged lunch from home.
Purchase a bagged lunch from the school cafeteria. The school cafeteria will provide field trip friendly lunches. Please indicate your lunch choice on the permission form.
For school cafeteria lunches, students will use their lunch ID numbers and their accounts will be charged accordingly.

Parents must complete a Permission Click in order for their student to attend the field trip. Permission must be completed by Monday, February 10, 2025!

We Need Parent Chaperones!
- We need approximately 15 parent chaperones each day.
- If you are interested in being a chaperone, you must first complete the Chaperone Interest Form found at the link above.
- Chaperones will be chosen in order of completed Chaperone Interest Forms.
- Only sign up to chaperone on the day when your child will be attending the field trip (February 26 - Ms. Keefer and Ms. Masyia's classes, February 27 - Ms. Pruden's classes).
- We will email you if you are one of the first 15 chaperones to complete the form.
What Students Should Bring
- Bagged lunch from home or purchased bagged lunch from the school cafeteria
- Cell Phone (see the next section on cell phone usage)
- Warm clothes - hat, gloves, closed toe shoes
- Drawstring bag to hold lunch, cell phone, personal items
Can My Child Bring a Cell Phone?
Your child may bring his/her cell phone with them on the field trip to take photographs and project notes. If you choose to allow this, please discuss with your child that while in the school and on the bus, the cell phone must be off and away. Phones may be used upon arrival at the National Zoo and must be turned off and put away once they enter the bus to return to the school. If you agree to all of the above, please check the box in the Permission Click.
