Weekly Message from Dr. Clark
September 27, 2024
Dear Holy Cross Community,
Happy Friday! Wholehearted thanks to all who were able to attend our CYO Parish Open /Jack Weitkamp Golf Tournament fundraiser on September 20th in support of our Athletics program. It was such a fun and joyful day of community building and friendly competition.
This week was also filled with amazing teaching and learning activities for students. While our Grade 4 students visited the Langsfield School House, fifth grade had the first educational field experience of their DoD STARBASE program. It is a 5-day, 25-hour program, designed to deliver STEM specific curriculum that meets state and national standards with the goal of motivating students to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. In addition, Holy Cross hosted the first Mathletics event of the year, where students in Grades 3-8 participated in an afternoon of engaging math problem-solving and camaraderie. Participating schools included Ascension, Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity, Nativity, and Holy Cross. Congratulations to Mrs. Kerth, Math Instructional Coach, and to our students on a successful tournament. Many thanks also to all who helped make this a successful event.

To accomplish this, CEF partners with K-12 Catholic schools in under-resourced communities to provide scholarships, ensuring that no child is denied the opportunity to attend a Catholic school due to financial constraints. In order to support their mission, we will collecting $2 this Friday, October 4 for an opportunity to have an out-of-uniform day on Friday, October 11 (since this Friday is a Spirit Day). Many thanks in advance for your contribution as it will support CEF financial assistance efforts for our students.
May you have a beautiful weekend and may God's blessings and peace be with you and yours always.
Warmly,
Paola V. Clark, Ed.D.

Virtuous Formation Program/Education in Virtue
Holy Cross has adopted a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support System known as the Be Holy Cross Virtuous Behavior Formation. Expectations are clearly defined under the “Be Holy Cross” framework. Students are expected to conduct themselves in keeping with the expectations set in this framework to be caring, responsible, obedient, and successful stewards. Individual, classroom, and school-wide expectations will be taught at the beginning of the school year and emphasized at various times throughout the year. Students will be acknowledged for positive behaviors. This is in full alignment with our annual theme: In a world where you can be anything...Be Holy Cross.
Education in Virtue, is the Archdiocesan Catholic Social Emotional Learning program which is a key component of our Virtuous Formation Program. It provides a curriculum and resources developed by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, and based on St. Thomas Aquinas’ teachings on the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. These resources provide a framework that helps all ages understand how to live a more virtuous life.
At Holy Cross, we highlight a virtue each month that is weaved organically into lessons and our daily school life. They are used in our announcements to guide our morning prayer, selection of the Saint of the Month, activities for our Faith Families, as well as classroom lessons. The virtue for the month of October is Humility (Humbleness).
Nurses' Nook
Holy Cross Allergy Conscious Policy
***Allergy-conscious policies can help protect people with food allergies and other hypersensitivities.
***It is helpful to all if either you or your child stops by the nurse office or the front office with the snack or treat they bring to share, so that it can be checked if it is allowed in the classroom before taking it in.
***When purchasing items for classroom or school wide consumption, please read labels carefully, as they may not have an “allergen warning”.
You must do the following:
***Read the ingredients on the label and make sure they are peanut and tree nut free.
*** Then look for a ¨may contain¨ statement under the ingredients list that tells of possible allergens the product may contain.
*** Under that, sometimes there is a ¨processed in a factory or plant that also processes peanuts and/or tree nuts¨ statement.
IMPORTANT to remember:
All products must be in a sealed package with a printed label of the ingredients.
NO Homemade items.
NO items from a bakery or donut shop.
CANNOT contain tree nuts (walnuts, pecans, pistachios, cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts, hazelnuts).
CANNOT contain peanuts.
CANNOT be made in a facility that processes peanuts and/or tree nuts.
Please see the link below for instructions on how to read a label and what to look for. Thank you for your cooperation! We really appreciate it.

*NO PUEDE contener maní.
