Dear Parents/Carers,
It is quite unbelievable that we are in the last week of the first summer half-term already. The academic year is going past so quickly. Please ensure that you keep checking the diary dates for the final summer term as we have a lot of things happening to close the year.
Thank you to all parents/cares who attended the Year 6 Residential Meeting this week with Miss Howard. The residential is an extremely worthwhile experience for our pupils and will be something that they remember for a long time. If you were unable to attend, I know Miss Howard will be only too keen to support you with any questions you may have.
A few Memorable Moments
This week, it was wonderful to see our Year 4 pupils in our nature garden reading and working on their poetry. As the summer approaches, this area is blooming and many insects can be seen in this habitat. The opportunity to work outdoors and see nature first-hand has really supported the pupils to write.
Monday 20th May
Tuesday 21st May
Our Year 3 and 4 pupils visited Leeds City Museum to support them with their learning about Ancient Egyptians. They had an amazing time and got to see various exhibits. Their favourite part of the visit was seeing a real life Mummy preserved from over 3,000 years ago and having a workshop to learn about the process of mummification. It has been wonderful to speak with the pupils about their learning and to see how much they deepened their understanding from the visit.
Wednesday 22nd May - Year 5 & Year 6 - Fire Safety Talk with West Yorkshire Fire Brigade
On Wednesday, the Year 5 and 6 pupils had a visit from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. In this workshop they were taught about fire prevention and how to stay safe in the event of a fire. This is another very important learning awareness for our older pupils.
Wednesday 22nd May - I may move
Later that day, we welcomed various parents/carers and grandparents into school to enjoy an afternoon of physical activities designed by the Year 6 pupils. The initiative, I May Move, was introduced by Wakefield District Age UK to support with fitness. The afternoon was a great success. The pupils organised the event superbly and everyone had great fun. Thank you to all representatives from Age UK, Wakefield who approached school with the idea and who came along to support.
