WHICH GRADE LEVEL WILL HAVE THE HIGHEST ATTENDANCE FOR MARCH?
Dear EXCEL Families,
We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. At EXCEL Academy, we are committed to providing a high-quality education that prepares our students for success in school and beyond. A crucial component of this success is consistent attendance.
We understand that sometimes circumstances arise that make it difficult for students to attend school. However, we want to emphasize the significant impact that even occasional absences and tardiness can have on a child's learning.
Why Attendance Matters:
- Missed Instruction: When students are absent or tardy, they miss valuable instruction and classroom discussions. This can create gaps in their learning and make it difficult to keep up with their classmates.
- Impact on Academic Performance: Chronic absenteeism has been linked to lower academic achievement, decreased graduation rates, and reduced opportunities for postsecondary success.
- Development of Essential Skills: Regular attendance helps students develop essential skills such as responsibility, time management, and social interaction.
- Building a Strong Foundation: Consistent attendance builds a strong foundation for future learning and success.
The Impact of Chronic Absenteeism:
Chronic absenteeism, defined as missing 10% or more of school days (approximately 18 days in a school year), can have a profound impact on a student's academic progress. Even missing a few days each month can add up to significant learning loss.
What We Are Doing:
- We are closely monitoring student attendance and identifying students who may be at risk of chronic absenteeism.
- We are implementing strategies to support students and families in improving attendance.
- We are committed to creating a welcoming and engaging learning environment that encourages students to attend school regularly.
How You Can Help:
- Prioritize Attendance: Make school attendance a priority for your child.
- Establish a Routine: Develop a consistent morning and evening routine to ensure your child gets enough sleep and arrives at school on time.
- Communicate with the School: If your child is absent, please notify the school promptly and provide a reason for the absence.
- Schedule Appointments Carefully: Whenever possible, schedule appointments outside of school hours. (Especially during TESTING WINDOWS)
- Address Concerns: If your child is experiencing any difficulties that are affecting their attendance, please reach out to their Teacher, School Counselor, Community School Coordinator, or Principal. We are here to help.
- Tardiness: Please make sure your student arrives to school on time. Even a few minutes late can disrupt the learning process.
We believe that by working together, we can ensure that all of our students have the opportunity to succeed. Thank you for your partnership in prioritizing your child's education.
