Elementary Highlights
Daylight Savings Time
Just a reminder that Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend! On Sunday, March 9, clocks will "spring forward" one hour. This means we lose an hour of sleep, which can be challenging for young children as they adjust to the change in schedule.
Here are a few tips to help make the transition easier:
We appreciate your support in helping students stay well-rested and ready to learn!
Spring Conferences
Spring conferences are coming up on March 20-21! Conference sign-up forms were sent home this week. If you have not yet signed up for a time, please return the form or contact your child's teacher as soon as possible to schedule your conference.
These meetings are a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and goals for the remainder of the school year.
P.I.E. Movie Night
P.I.E. movie night is coming up on March 8th. We'll be showing "The Good Dinosaur" from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. It's a fantastic opportunity to relax, enjoy a movie with your kids, and connect with other families in our school community. We hope to see you there!
State Tournament Excitement! The elementary students cheered on the boys’ and girls’ teams as they headed to the state tournament on Thursday morning. In the afternoon, students with no behavioral referrals or missing assignments had the special opportunity to watch the boys’ basketball team play on the big screen in the high school gym.
Elementary students celebrated Dr. Seuss Week with fun, themed dress-up days! These students are dressed as what they want to be when they grow up.
Middle School Highlights
We started this week off with a guest speaker, Sandy Zimmerman, who is an American Ninja Warrior champion who lives in Spokane. Her message to our staff about the importance of educators in her life and her message to our students about never giving up was incredibly inspirational. It's safe to say Reardan had an exceptionally eventful week of basketball as we sent both the girls and boys teams to state competition where they have advanced to the final four! More importantly, the boys’ basketball team will receive an award for having the highest grade point average among the state teams with an average of 3.77 combined gpa. This work ethic is exemplary and we want to shine a light on this for our middle school students to aspire to.
Excellent grades begin with excellent attendance. There is a direct correlation between a student’s attendance rate and their grades. If a student misses more than 10%, or 2 days out of every 20, they are considered in the chronic absence range.
For the month of March we are highlighting the importance of making school a daily habit. In order to qualify for our end of the month awards, students must have an attendance rate of 85% or higher on March 26th to qualify for the event on March 28th (early release for end of third quarter.) We will also be doing some fun activities that students can participate in just for showing up at school! Here is a look at our current attendance rate for middle school:
Last month we celebrated 68 middle school students who had a gpa of 3.3 and above! That’s over half of our students who made the honor roll for Semester one. We also celebrated students who demonstrated the character trait of HONESTY and rewarded all students with no cell phone violations and no major office referrals with games, snacks, and a Disney sing along. Students loved the snack and candy bar, choosing their favorite games, and just hanging out with friends.

Conquering the Cold: Mt. Spokane Outdoor School Adventure
Our outdoor school expedition to Mt. Spokane was a masterclass in winter survival, teamwork, and the raw beauty of the natural world.
Stepping into our snowshoes, we transformed into explorers, navigating the pristine, snow-covered landscape. We weren't just hiking; we were analyzing terrain, studying the contours of the mountain, and understanding how the landscape dictated our every move.
Before we could build, we had to plan. We plotted our snow shelter locations. We learned the importance of meticulous planning, a skill that transcends the snowy slopes and applies to every aspect of life.
Shovels in hand, we became architects of the arctic, shoveling snow into a pile big enough for us all to fit inside when finished. Each shoveled scoop brought us closer to our goal: a sturdy snow shelter capable of withstanding the elements.
The transformation was astounding. What began as a mound of snow became a complex structure, a testament to our teamwork and perseverance. We carved out the interior, shaping it until three people could comfortably fit inside. The feeling of accomplishment overwhelmed us as we stood on top of our finished snow cave, a robust testament to our hard work.
Inside the cave, we delved into the science of condensation, understanding how our body heat interacted with the cold environment. We learned crucial winter survival skills, from staying warm to signaling to safety, knowledge that could one day save our lives.
We left Mt. Spokane not just with frozen fingers and rosy cheeks, but with a deeper understanding of the natural world, a newfound appreciation for teamwork, and the confidence to face any challenge that comes our way.
