...Solar Eclipse Month! (April 8)
While New York City is not in the direct path of the total eclipse of the sun (cue: Total Eclipse of the Heart), we will be on track for an 89% solar eclipse coverage! To that end, join us at lunch on April 8 to make homemade solar eclipse viewers which we can take to the roof at 2pm to view the eclipse through our viewers. REMEMBER, you can do real damage to your eyes by looking directly at the sun if you don't have genuine solar eclipse glasses. Our method will be much safer so you can keep viewing solar eclipses going forward! They're also giving out free eclipse classes at the following locations:
- Brooklyn Public Library - Central Branch
- Long Island Welcome Center: 5100 Long Island Expressway, eastbound Moynihan Train Hall: MTA Long Island Rail Road Ticket Windows, 421 8th Ave., New York

...Mina on vacation!
Yes, it's true. I will be taking a vacation from April 11-19 which means I won't see you again until May! But never fear, some of you have met Patty McHugh, who will be filling in for me while I am away. Patty just retired in February from Manhattan Day and Night School, but as you can see, you can't keep a good librarian out of a library! Patty will be here on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am-12pm, so that we can open the library at 9am on those days, and she'll be here in earnest the entire time I'm out on vacation, so you won't even notice that I'm gone. Stop in and say hello! She has even more energy than me, and she's delighted to be back in a library!
