Field Day will be here before we know it! Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 24th (rain date-May 31st). This is a day that relies heavily on volunteers! Volunteers will be used to lead stations for our students. The games will be simple and unintimidating! ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE VOLUNTEER APPROVED FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR! If you are an approved volunteer and would like to volunteer on Field Day, please sign up by clicking the link below. Thank you so much!
Visual Arts
Click The Superintendent's Gallery: West School Zone Exhibition to visit the virtual art exhibition featuring pieces from Baltimore County Public Schools in our west zone! The student work in this show was completed during the 2023-2024 school year and reflects their creativity, artistic voice, and enthusiasm for making art. We are so happy and proud of our artists engaging with the creative process to create their masterpieces!
Also, selected pieces will be featured in the Student Art Show at The Arbutus Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library during the month of April! This exhibit will highlight art created by students from local Baltimore County Public Schools including Arbutus Elementary. Stop by during their normal operating hours to check out the displays!

Attendance Matters
We’ve all been there. Lovely spring finally emerges after a long, dark winter; the weather gets nicer, and it feels harder and harder to motivate students to show up to school. New research from Jing Liu, Monica Lee, and Seth Gershenson shows that while all absences matter, spring absences are more harmful than fall absences because of the increased rigor in those spring lessons. Building and expanding upon the groundwork done in the fall, missed lessons in the spring means losing more substantial learning opportunities. (from EveryDayLabs.com)
Here are our current attendance numbers. We are almost where the county wants us to be!
You can see our attendance rates compared to this time last year. We are doing better than the last two years, so let's keep it up and avoid the Spring Attendance Slump!
If you need help, talk with your child's teacher or Mrs. Olsen (school counselor) for ideas and suggestions. There are attendance success plans for prek-grade 1 and a different success plan for grades 3-5 to help you.
