6/8/25 TNT Family Newsletter

Hello TNT Families,
It’s hard to believe the school year is coming to a close! We’ve got lots of fun events, field trips and celebrations happening this week. Check out the information below on our Talent Showcase, minimum day dismissal on the last day of school, and how to access report cards. Don’t forget to swing by Lost & Found before Thursday!
On behalf of the North Terrace teachers and staff, thank you for all the ways you’ve supported your students and our school this year. We wish all our families a safe, joyful, and restful summer. And to those moving on from North Terrace, we send you off with warmest wishes. You’ll always be part of the TNT family.
Have a wonderful summer, everyone!
Yours in learning,
Principal Hughes

We can’t wait to celebrate the creativity and confidence of our talented Tigers!
📄 Reminder: Report Cards Are Now Paperless
As a reminder, OUSD no longer prints and mails home progress reports or report cards. Families can access these important documents digitally through the Aeries Parent Portal.
Viewing report cards online means:
-
Faster access to grades as soon as they’re released
-
Less paper waste
-
Centralized platform for parent access to student information
-
Reduced costs of printing and mailing

Lost & Found Getting a Summer Clean-Out
Thanks to students showing responsibility for keeping track of their belongings and a little help from families checking the Lost & Found, we were able to skip our usual May clean-out! Way to go, Tigers!
The final Lost & Found empty-out will happen right after school ends for summer, so be sure to remind your students to swing by and take one last look before Thursday.
Summer Parent Coaching
Children don’t need perfection, they need connection! Parent Coaching is a FREE resource provided by our school district and Parent Guidance that connects you to regularly scheduled meetings with a coach, as well as content created by therapists.
Parent Guidance is here to support you throughout the summer with Parent Coaching.

Morning Arrival & Breakfast Routines
A healthy meal is an important way to start the day, and we want to make sure all students joining us for breakfast have time to eat!
Breakfast is served until 8:10 AM daily, but we’ve noticed many students arriving too late to eat their meal. If you would like your child to eat breakfast at school, please help them get to school with enough time so they can make it to the cafeteria and fuel up for a great day of learning.
Kindergarten Cafeteria Mornings Are Here!
Kindergarten students are now eating breakfast in the cafeteria - just like they do at lunchtime. This helps them build independence and get ready for the routines of first grade.
If you would like your student to have breakfast at school, please make sure they arrive to the kindergarten playground with enough time to walk to the cafeteria, get their meal, and eat without feeling rushed.
Student Check-Out Guidelines & Early Pick-up Deadlines
We encourage you to keep your child in school for the entire instructional day and make doctor’s appointments outside of the school day when at all possible.
If this is not possible and you need to pick up your child early, please allow extra time before your appointment for Front Office Staff to call for your child.
To avoid disruptions to classrooms during the busiest part of our day, please note students will not be released from class the last 15 minutes of the school day.
🪪 Bring Your ID!
Always have your ID handy when checking out students— even if you're a familiar face, it’s a must!✅ Check Your Contacts!
Only the people listed on your child's contact list in Aeries are authorized for pick-up. If someone’s not on the list, they may not pick up your child. Safety first!⏰ Early Pick-Up Deadline is 2:40 PM or 12:10 PM on Minimum Days
Please plan ahead—early pick-up ends at 2:40 PM or 12:10 PM. After that, we’ll see you at regular dismissal!
Smart Watches & Cell Phones... During the Day, Off and Away
We’ve recently seen an uptick in students wearing smartwatches and having cell phones out during the school day, so this is a good time for a quick reminder: our OUSD policy is “During the Day, Off and Away!"
That means all personal devices — including phones and smartwatches — should be turned off and stored out of sight from the start of the school day until dismissal.
We appreciate your continued partnership in helping reinforce this expectation at home. When we work together, it supports a focused learning environment and helps all our Tigers stay present, connected, and ready to learn!
**********
Board Policy 5131.8 highlights include:
Cell Phone Usage: Students must turn off (ringer/tone/sounds off) and store their phones/smart watches in their backpacks upon entering campus. Phones should stay off until they leave.
Exceptions: Students with specific accommodations (IEPs, 504 plans, or medical conditions) may have phone access as specified.
Communication: Classrooms have landlines for students to contact parents when necessary. Phones will be accessible in emergencies.
Academic Benefits: Reducing phone usage helps students stay focused and engaged in class.
Safety and Security: This policy helps prevent cyberbullying, ensures students focus during emergencies, and reduces the risk of theft or loss.
Possible disciplinary actions may include:
1st Offense: Warning to put the cell phone away. Phone call/message home from staff.
2nd Offense: Confiscation of the cell phone, restorative conversation, and may be returned at the end of the period. Phone call/message home from staff.
3rd Offense: Confiscation of the cell phone, phone is sent to the office, and returned at the end of the day. Phone call/message home from teacher.
Repeated Offenses: Confiscation of the cell phone with caregiver pick-up at the end of the day. Phone call/message home from teacher and/or Administration.
Individual Site and student contracts can be made with students to leave their cell phone at home if the policy is repeatedly violated.
Walk It Like a Tiger: Scooter & Bike Safety
As part of living out our Tiger Code, all students are expected to walk their bikes and scooters once they arrive on campus and to park them in the designated racks only.
This small act of responsibility and care helps keep everyone safe, especially during busy arrival and dismissal times.
Thanks for reinforcing these expectations at home and helping our Tigers show care for their school community! 🐾 🚲 🧡
Swift Stops, Safe Mornings: Let’s Keep Drop-off Smooth!
To keep everyone safe at morning arrival, please use the designated drop-off areas only - in front of the office on the Base side or at the circle on the Capistrano side. No shortcuts, please! Dropping off in parking lots or along red painted curbs creates safety concerns.
Please remember the white curb is for quick loading and unloading only. Even one parked vehicle can cause safety and delay issues. If your child needs a bit more time, or if you'd like to walk them to the gate, please park in the visitor lot instead of stopping in the drop-off lane.
A little teamwork goes a long way in keeping mornings smooth and safe. We appreciate you doing your part to make mornings easier for our whole school community!! 🚗💨
