SHS HIGHLIGHTS
-No Place For Hate
Activities included the “Glove of Kindness” Wall, where students shared acts of kindness on paper gloves; the “Step into the Ring” Pledge, where participants signed a commitment to stand against hate and received glove-shaped pins; and the “Round by Round” Challenges, weekly inclusivity tasks with prizes for classrooms. The day also featured a Knockout Speaker Series with inspiring talks and ended with a Gloves-on Celebration, filled with games, and team-building activities. The event showed that kindness is the ultimate champion.
We are very appreciative to P&I Harris and Mr. Vaughn for their continued commitment to encouraging students to spread positivity instead of hate!
-Community-Based Instruction
Each week, students from Ms. Peters' and Mrs. Mundlapati's classes engage in Community-Based Learning by visiting different community facilities. The learning objective of the field trips are:
- Social Interaction: Students will demonstrate positive social interactions by greeting residents and presenting gifts.
- Community Engagement: Students will learn the value of giving back to the community through their participation.
- Teamwork and Independence: Students will work together to prepare for the trip and demonstrate independence during transitions and interactions.
- Civic and Social Skills: Students will practice appropriate communication and behavior in a community setting.
These field trips help students develop essential life skills and a lasting appreciation for community involvement.
-Science Classroom: Exciting New Learning Tool
Periodic Table Tiles for Mastering Chemical Formulas!
SHS Chemistry classrooms have incorporated Periodic Table Tiles into their lessons. Mrs. Jabeen was thrilled to introduce her class to this innovative and engaging way to learn chemical formulas using Periodic Table Tiles. This hands-on approach will not only make learning more interactive but also help students understand the elements and their combinations better.
What Are Periodic Table Tiles?
Periodic Table Tiles are small, magnetic tiles representing each element on the periodic table. Each tile includes the element’s symbol, atomic number, and atomic mass.
With Periodic Table Tiles, SHS Chemistry students are set to explore the fascinating world of chemistry with renewed enthusiasm and understanding.
Below, students are arranging and combing to form various chemical compounds, making it easier to visualize and memorize chemical formulas.
