Dear AGS 8th Grade Parents,

On March 20th, your student has an exciting opportunity to get a hands-on lesson about financial management at AGS Reality Store Day. Reality Store Day will let your student pick a career and will assign them an income, marital status, and more. They will then manage their budget during a one hour simulation.

Genisys Credit Union partners with schools to host this event so that students can learn the importance of managing their money in a safe environment. Our goal is to give them the tools needed to be successful once they become adults.

In order to participate in this exciting program, your student will need to download an app prior to Reality Store Day. This app will tell them all the information they need for Reality Store Day and act as a storefront where they pay for goods and services.

To download the app:

• Go to the Google Play Store or App Store on your smart device.

• Search “Bite of Reality 2” in the store. Hit download.

• We will provide the Sponsor Code, Event Code, and Password the day of the event.

2023 - 2024 registration is complete!

We met with 6th & 7th graders this week in their ELA classes to register them for 2023-2024 courses. If your student missed this opportunity, we will see them soon to register them. They are encouraged to make an appointment to see their counselor or send their counselor an email if they missed their designated day. IF your student changes their mind about a class they selected, they are NOT able to go into their StudentVue & make that change. We directed students to make an appointment/email their counselor if this is the case.

2023-2024 6th grade registration starting!

Counselors , Mr. Rettenmund & Mr. Seath will visit the three elementaries in the next two weeks to register our incoming 6th graders. Information about this process was communicated by the elementaries.

Three students from AGS have been named local winners in the 54th annual America & Me essay contest. Here are the winners of the America & Me Essay (from Farm Bureau Insurance):

1st place - Destiny Kilpela

2nd place - Madison Bono

3rd place - Hailey Denison

Destiny's first place essay now advances to the state level competition, from which the top ten essays in Michigan will be selected.

Several thousand eighth grade students from nearly 200 Michigan schools participated in the 2022-23 America & Me essay contest so we are very proud of these three authors and their accomplishments.

AGS will be participating in the Active Schools Challenge during the month of March. The Active Schools Challenge promotes physical activity in and out of school by providing Pre-K - 12th grade students the opportunity participate in a "healthy" competition. All Genesee County Schools are encouraged to participate!

Starting next week students can log their weekly activities into a simple Google Form. AGS won this completion in 2018. We are challenging all students and staff to win the challenge this year! You can visit the Commit 2 Fit website by clicking on the link below!

After Week 1 AGS currently ranks 7th in the county for middle/high school with 309 points (See chart below).

AST is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. AGS Teachers are present and transportation is available for students residing within district. A light snack will also be provided.

To practice and encourage this character strength with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

For the month of March, AGS is partnering with Snuggle Sacks, an organization that was founded in 2015 by local youth, which strives to bring awareness to homelessness and provide homeless individuals with survival sacks. We will be collecting dry items (new fleece blankets, socks, hats, gloves), food items (granola bars, individual cracker packages, raisins, instant ramen, individual packets of instant coffee), and travel-size toiletry items (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, comb, chapstick, tissues, cough drops, shampoo, conditioner).

Linden/Fenton Heat Girls Varsity Lacrosse in collaboration with Linden Youth Lacrosse is proud to announce Junior Heat Girls Lacrosse! This program will be led by Varsity Heat Coach, Isabel Greene and Youth Coach, Shari Luck. This opportunity is for girls in 6th - 8th grades. The premise of the program is to introduce the sport of lacrosse and provide girls an opportunity to participate and learn the game. Please see the flyer below for more details. Our partners at Jersey Mike's will be hosting a fundraising day for AGS! The proceeds will benefit our 8th grade field trip to Chicago. Visit Jersey Mike's anytime on April 12 to support the cause. Thank you to our friends at Jersey Mike's!
