Gator News
Tuesday, May 16th
Today our school had an evacuation drill. We had everyone out of the building in under 4 minutes. Then we moved to our evacuation site at UES. Our students did an outstanding job. We were able to complete our entire drill and return to our classes in under 40 minutes. Hopefully we don't ever cross the occasion to have to use these drills but its great to know our students can find ways to safely follow our process to keep everyone accounted for and safe.
We are also super excited that we are ALMOST completely fully staffed for next year (just one left!). In our upcoming Gator News we will have more information about our new hires! Thank you to the caregivers that joined us in some of our interviews. This time of year is always busy for everyone...we appreciate the time you spent with us to find our awesome new staff!
What's New for Next Year?
Social Emotion Learning (SEL) Team:
We will have two school counselors! We will have a new guidance suite down stairs for this team. We also will have a school counseling intern for part of the school year next year. Our school counselors will be teaching a class throughout the year to all students in grades 5 & 6. Additionally we have a SEL teacher/coach that will push into classes to support teachers and students better optimize our classroom environments. We also have an SEL interventionist that will be working to provide specialized instruction for some of our students.
Academic Intervention Team:
We are doubling our intervention supports at MSMS for next year. We will have two math interventionists and two literacy interventionists supporting all grade levels. These teachers will be working in small groups with students on a daily basis to support unfinished learning in reading and mathematics.
Special Education Team:
We will have one additional special educator at MSMS next year to ensure we are doing our best to support students that have disabilities in providing the specialized instruction they need to meet their goals.

Parents interested in chaperoning students at the concert should contact Mrs. Goldblatt (hilaryo@mpsvt.org) or Mr. Krietz (kirkk@mpsvt.org). We are looking for a few volunteers with level 3 clearance to supervise students in our staging area prior to their performance.
8th Grade Celebration Party - June 14th!
When: Wednesday, June 14, from 7:30 - 9:30 pm (directly following the 8th-grade promotion ceremony at the high school)
Where: Cafeteria at Montpelier High School
To celebrate our 8th graders moving on to Montpelier High School in the fall, the Community Alliance Group is hosting a Black Light Celebration Party in the Montpelier High School cafeteria following the Promotion Ceremony on June 14. All MSMS 8th graders are invited to come to celebrate with their classmates!
The Black Light Celebration party will have refreshments, glow sticks, and music and games hosted by Top Hat Entertainment. Helpful tips: If your student wants to "glow" at the celebration, any clothing or materials that are white, fluorescent, or neon will glow in the black light. "Glow in the dark" items will shine brightly under blacklight. If you don't want to glow, choose black or darker colors for most of your outfit.
More details on volunteer roles to come. However, if you want to make or donate refreshments, set up for the dance, or chaperone the dance, please email Stephani Kononan at skononan@gmail.com or Kelly Poor at kstoddardpoor@aarp.org.
