QUARTER 1 WEEK 7 STUDENT PROGRESS REPORTS THIS WEEK (Check Your Email)
Student Led Conferences
If you did not get an opportunity and are interested in participating in a student-led conference with your child please contact your Firebird's Team Leader to get signed up for one. Student-led Conferences will be held on Monday, October 14th from morning until lunch time. The conferences take roughly 20 minutes and provide your child a chance to talk to you about their progress in 1st Quarter. These sessions should not be confused with parent-teacher conferences. These are student run sessions but teachers will be available to guide and assist. Student-led conferences are an example of a high impact practice for middle schools and we hope that you can join us that day.

IGP Information for 8th Grade Families
Eighth Grade Families,
It is time to schedule your student’s Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meeting! IGPs are a state requirement for all students in grades 8-12. The purpose is to assist students with the transition from middle school to high school and beyond. All IGP meetings are conducted by a school counselor, with the student and a parent/guardian in attendance. This meeting is not part of the high school course registration process and takes approximately 20 minutes.
Here is a link to sign up for a time that best fits your schedule: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054EAFAA23A5F49-51140749-8thgrade#/. All meetings will be held virtually through Google Meet.
Dress Code Updates
Please attend to the following items pertaining to dress code at PJFMS:
1) Per district-wide dress code expectations, skirt and shorts length for all students MUST reach the students fingertips when their arms are placed at their sides. Any item that does not meet that length is considered a dress code violation. Teachers are reminding students of these expectation this week with the understanding that dress code referrals may be submitted next week.
2) Students are allowed to wear Fisher MS T-shirts with dress code bottoms on Fridays regardless of the color of the shirt
3) Students may not wear the athletics jerseys of outside of Fisher sports teams they play on for game days.
4) We have seen a great positive change with the removal of hoodies so thank you for your support!
Parent Backpack
Parents are strongly encouraged to create a Backpack account for their children. Greenville County Schools uses Backpack to provide parents with the most recent news and information about our schools. The Backpack for Parents account also provides parents, guardians, or contacts with a central place to sign in to:
- View their student's information including demographics, attendance, classes, grades, lunch balances, and test scores
- Apply or register their student to Special Focus schools and programs (Fine Arts Center, Career Centers, etc.)
- Receive alerts and notifications regarding their students
- View their student's school and contact information
- Manage parent and contact information for their students

EVOLV
The EVOLV Detection System is used district-wide as a part of Greenville County Schools collective safety efforts. These are used primarily for weapons detection. All schools partner with the GCS Security Department as well as local law enforcement agencies. As parents you can expect that we will run EVOLV a minimum of once per week but more often we will run screens multiple times per week. These screener sessions will remain completely random and will always be unannounced. We will often conduct an EVOLV Intake which is conducted as students enter the building before school at all student entrances. During an intake students should remove their Chromebooks and carry it in separate from their backpack.
Please know that school administration maintains regular contact with GCS Security in our continued efforts to ensure school safety.
Being A Parent Volunteer at Fisher Middle School
Please click this link HERE to explore your options when it comes to being a parent volunteer at Fisher Middle School. This would include in-school opportunities such as Field & STEAM Day and external events such as class trips or field trips. We prefer that volunteers, chaperones, etc. are Level 2 approved.
