Dear Disney Families,
We are off to a great start to the school year! Thank you for your efforts and attention to our recent parking procedures. We are now in the home stretch with the Kelly Road construction.
We are very excited to have a new paved road, as this was a much needed project.
As we move into this next phase, on Tuesday, September 3rd, the final top coat and paving is being completed. You will be unable to use the parking entrance. Therefore, we will follow the protocol listed below.
Morning Drop-Off:

From the South:
Drop off location at Matthew and Katherine. Roadside parking is available along Matthew, Katherine and Kenna. This neighborhood is accessible from 15 Mile Road, enter on Simon.
End of Day Pickup:
All students who do not ride a bus, walk home or use SACC, will walk to Kelly and Penrod. Please pick up your children from this location. Staff will walk the students to this location.
Buses:
Buses will drop off in the subdivision south of Disney, at Kenna and Katherine. At the end of the day, students will be picked up from this location as well.

September is Attendance Awareness Month
Lifelong Attendane Habits Starts Now!
Chronic absenteeism is considered a hidden educational crisis in the U.S. According to Attendance Works, research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire school year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school and graduate from high school.
Children with good attendance (9 or fewer days absent per year) typically:
- Maintain quality friendships
- Are less anxious about school
- Are more confident
- Are higher achieving
- GRADUATE!
- Experience success in the work force and in LIFE!
Throughout this first month of school, strive for your child to have perfect attendance (unless, of course, your child falls ill). Work with your child to set a regular bedtime, develop morning routines that will help set them up for success, develop backup plans for getting to school, and schedule non-emergency appointments and extended vacations when schools not in-session. If your child is feeling anxious/nervous to attend school, reach out to the school for help; it's important students attend school everyday unless they are truly sick.
Remember, all absences count toward chronic absenteeism, even if you call the attendance line or provide documentation. In Fraser, we continue to work hard to decrease chronic absenteeism- which in turn benefits ALL students!
Daily Attendance
Calling in your child sick? Please call the attendance line at any time of day at 586-439-6490. Utilizing the attendance line will assist our office staff with making sure attendance records are accurate.
Attention Kindergarten and New Disney Families
Students will be receiving their iPad soon after the beginning of the school year. Technology Agreements need to be on file for all students before they receive their iPad and chargers. The current technology agreement on file will determine if students bring their iPads home or keeps it at school. Technology Agreements can be updated at any time if you would like to change your student’s opt-in/opt-out status.
If you are new to Disney, including all kindergarten students, or if you would like to change your students opt-out status, please fill out the Technology Agreement linked below. As a reminder, students will NOT receive an iPad without a completed technology agreement on file. Students who have Technology Agreements that are Opt-Out will keep their iPad at school. No charger will be assigned as it will be charged at night at school. If your student is an Opt-In and you do not need a charger at home, please e-mail Mrs. Cichocki and a charger will not be assigned to your student.
Please mail Mrs. Cichocki at Dorothy.cichocki@fraserk12.org if you have any additional questions regarding student iPads.
Second Step Social & Emotional Learning Curriculum K-8
Now more than ever we need to address the whole child. Best practice shows that students who feel safe and secure are better prepared to engage in their learning. Therefore we are excited to continue to use Second Step in our K-8 classes beginning this week to further strengthen our commitment to social and emotional learning.
Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with various social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons will build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Twain to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
Unit 1 Home Links for grades K-5 can be found linked below.
Dress Code Reminders
As a reminder, our dress code is a district policy, which is accessible as part of our Student Code of Conduct. The purpose of our dress code is to make sure that our students are dressed for learning success. Parents will be called to bring a change of clothing when students do not follow the district policy. Below are some of the most pertinent dress code guidelines. The following types of clothing are inappropriate for school and WILL NOT BE ALLOWED :

Care of Southeast Michigan
CARE is a resource in our community that helps families and individuals who are experiencing difficulties with mental health or substance abuse. CARE's Student Assistance program offers families the opportunity to receive a thorough assessment for children who are experiencing mental health issues. CARE will then provide resources to assist with concerns. CARE also is a great place to attend parenting classes for Early Childhood through Teen. Specialty classes related to anger management and play and learn groups for younger children are also programs provided through CARE. For more information or for a referral to CARE's Student Assistance program please contact our social worker, Mrs. Rinna, or contact CARE at 586-541-CARE.
Find your child's bus stop online
Bus routes for this year are posted on our website. Please make sure to check this as we have consolidated some routes for this year due to ongoing driver shortages and your stop may have changed from last year.
Also, with several construction projects in the area, our buses may be slightly off our scheduled times. Please continue to have your students at the bus stop 10 minutes before their scheduled time.
Please review with your child the bus rules found on the Transportation Department’s website.
