The Cougar Connection
Lafayette Elementary March 10th
Greetings Cougar Families,
We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend! Megan attended a fundraiser for Camp Kesem (check it out!) and went horseback riding. Robin took advantage of a rare hockey-free weekend with hikes, dog park visits, and house projects.
With daylight savings time kicking in this weekend, we encourage you to help your students adjust by maintaining a consistent schedule-even on weekends, staying hydrated, and reducing screen time before bed.
Boulder Valley School District is currently hosting a public review of the proposed elementary math materials. Parents are invited to schedule an appointment to review these materials at the Education Center until April 4th. Appointment LINK
A huge thank you for making our Read-a-thon a success! Together, we raised $7,674, which will go toward funding tutors, field trips, and classroom needs. Our students also showed their love for reading by logging an impressive 9,146.6 units! We celebrated their achievements on Friday with a red carpet event where they got to pick out a book like true movie stars.
Looking ahead, spring break is just two weeks away—March 24th-28th. After the break, students in grades 3-5 will begin state testing:
📌 Math & English Language Arts Assessments: April 7th-11th

Third Grade Music Performance Information
The entire 3rd grade will be presenting a music performance on Tuesday March 11th at 6pm in the gymnasium.
All 3rd grade students will need to be on stage in the gym by 5:50pm on the night of the performance so we can start on time. There is no dress code for this performance, but it is a prime photo-opportunity! The entire show should last about 30 minutes. We really hope that everyone can make it to this special event!

Dear Families,
As we move into March, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and engagement. This month, we are focusing on a few important initiatives to ensure a positive and safe learning environment for all our students.
We will be distributing a student bullying survey to gather feedback and insights from our students. Your support in encouraging your child to participate is greatly appreciated, as it will help us better understand their experiences and improve our school community. The goal of the survey is to increase awareness of student experiences to help guide schools in preventing bullying and creating safe and respectful school climates for all students. Again, the survey is voluntary. Students do not have to answer any questions that they do not want to answer. Student responses to the survey will be confidential.
The survey will be given on March 7th. If your student agrees to participate, the survey will take 10-15 minutes of school time to complete. For more information about bullying prevention visit BVSD’s Bullying Prevention web page. If you are in need of mental health support you can contact Colorado Crisis Services.
Additionally, we will be providing counseling lessons that focus on what it means to have a growth mindset. These lessons aim to equip students with the tools to embrace challenges and view setbacks as opportunities for learning.
Growth Mindset: A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, hard work, and perseverance. Individuals with a growth mindset tend to:
Embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.
Persist in the face of setbacks.
See effort as a path to mastery.
Learn from criticism and feedback.
Find inspiration in the success of others.
Fixed Mindset: In contrast, a fixed mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence are static traits that cannot be changed. People with a fixed mindset often:
Avoid challenges to prevent failure.
Give up easily when faced with difficulties.
View effort as fruitless, believing talent alone leads to success.
Ignore constructive criticism or feel threatened by others' success.
May feel discouraged by setbacks.
Encouraging students to develop a growth mindset can lead to greater resilience, motivation, and a lifelong love of learning. It’s essential to reinforce the idea that mistakes are part of the learning process and that effort and persistence are crucial to achieving goals.
Thank you for your partnership in fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere at our school. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Warm regards,
Ms. Anna

Professor John Bohn’s Family Wizards Show “The Physics of Sports!” is a HIT! It might seem like our favorite athletes defy the laws of physics, but this is not so - they work with physics, just as we all do. Come and learn about how motion, energy, and balance contribute to the things we all do in sports! We will have lots of audience participation, including an activity for all kids who attend!
