Each month, the Counseling Department is going to be highlighting a topic of importance for our high schoolers in sessions and information around the school. This month the topic is Mental Health Awareness.

Mental Health Awareness Month was established in 1949 to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives. Being able to maintain good mental health is essential to each and every individual’s overall health and well-being. Below is a list of possible signs of mental health concerns in children and youth.

• Sleeping too much or too little,

• Have a hard time making friends or withdrawing from friends

• Doing poorly in school

• Engage in self-injurious behavior

• Lose interest in things they used to enjoy

In July of 2022, the Suicide and Crisis Hotline transitioned to the 988 Lifeline.
