Digital Resources Coordinator, Chelsea Watts, decorated her office space this week for the State's Department of Administration Halloween Decoration Contest, getting everyone a little more in the holiday spirit. Keeping a watchful eye wearing a witch hat was office mascot, Huachimingo. We think it turned out great!
OLIS Hosts National State Library Leaders Conference
The COSLA Annual Fall Conference celebrated its 50th anniversary in Newport, Rhode Island!
Rhode Island is honored to host the Chief Officers of State Library (COSLA) Annual Fall Conference, which took place from Sunday, October 29, to Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in Newport.
The conference features a rich program including keynote speakers, engaging breakout sessions, and ample networking opportunities for state library agency leaders, dedicated staff, and stakeholders. Themed "Libraries: The Future is Now," the event delves into the ever-evolving role of libraries in the digital age.
SCOOP was a prominent highlight at COSLA's conference.
OLIS Library Program Manager, Pablo Morales Henry, presented SCOOP during the "Preparing for Tomorrow's Disaster" session. This tool, constructed on the Django Framework, provides a user-friendly web interface that empowers library professionals to efficiently record responsibilities, contacts, and critical tasks required during emergencies, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of library services.

NLS Delay of Calendars and Magazines
Distribution of 2023 braille pocket and wall calendars has been significantly delayed. Patrons should expect to receive 2023 calendars by December.
Veterans Be Aware of PACT Act Scam
Since its introduction of the new law last year, there has been an increase in scams targeting Veterans. Be on the lookout for PACT Act-related phishing emails and calls targeting Veterans to access their PACT Act benefits or submit claims on their behalf.
