DCSC Construction Update

October may bring spooky thrills, but we’ve got nothing but exciting updates in this month’s Construction Update! If you’ve visited South Elementary or DCHS recently, you’ve likely noticed the buzz of activity—crews are hard at work, moving dirt, raising beams, and applying fresh coats of paint. It’s inspiring to watch the progress unfold, and we hope you are as thrilled as we are to see these projects take shape!

South continues to move through the construction process swiftly and efficiently and is currently moving right on track! As mentioned before, our three biggest ongoing projects in this building include the new art room, the new cafeteria and kitchen, and the classroom renovations. See below for an update on each.

• Kitchen construction is progressing on schedule, with drywall, glazing, rolling door installations, and freezer setup well underway.

• Renovations are still underway in several classrooms, with storage units installed and casework, partitioning, and display board installations in progress.

• Alongside the classroom renovations, work has been completed on a new sensory room! This room will provide a comfortable and safe environment for students to regulate their bodies, take some time to improve focus for the day, or just take a break when they need it most.

We are so excited to announce that South's brand new art room is now in FULL USE! Classes have been meeting in the room for art class each day, enjoying the expanded storage and work space. While our teachers showed incredible patience and flexibility with "art on a cart" or other temporary spaces, we know that this new space will make art class more enjoyable for all.

The high school has work happening all over the building, and it feels like new progress is made every single day! Below are a few of the bigger projects currently taking place.

• Starting at the front of the building, the new main entrance and classroom addition are taking shape. Exterior walls are now up, and plumbing and overhead work are underway. If you drive by, you can get a really good look at the progress and even visualize the final product a bit better.
• Heading over the the southwest side of the building, we have the new athletic entrance and pool/weight room under heavy construction. The beams are up to form the new entry, as well as a high wall at the end of the new pool area.

The athletic offices are set up and ready to welcome our athletic crew in! The new space has a conference room designed specifically for athletic purposes (signings, meetings, etc.), large windows to let in natural light, televisions to review athletic footage and relay important information, and so much more. We are making progress on several phases of our project plan! Here is a brief overview of what is to come within the next year. Please note that all estimated completion dates are subject to change as construction continues.
