Dear Parkdale Families,
We’re so happy to have your student back at Parkdale! It’s been wonderful to see them reconnect with friends and meet their new teachers. In class, we’re reviewing how to be Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind, while also completing assessments to ensure they are in the appropriate learning groups.
Thank you for helping your student settle back into the school routine. We know these first days can be challenging, and we’re keeping this in mind as we support them.
I’ll be sending updates on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM.
Best regards,
Nate Parson
Principal

Picture day information, online ordering. Here is a link to the photographer's page with more information.
You can order online soon and for up to four (4) days after picture day.
Here are some helpful tips to make picture day great!
- Wear simple clothing. Solid shirts or small patterns, along with sleeves, photograph best. A simple collared shirt is a timeless classic.
- Avoid logos and text on clothing. Graphics or wording may not photograph completely and can become partially cropped out of your picture.
What is Bullying? Tips for talking to your students at home
In the classes this week we are teaching students again about how to be helpful classmates and how to prevent bullying. Please take a look at the flyer attached with some tips about how you can talk with your student at home.
Attendance Reminder
Start times:
7:35 AM on Tuesday-Friday
8:35 AM on Mondays
Regular attendance is important. Studies show how students who miss too many days in kindergarten and first grade can struggle academically in later years. They often have trouble with reading by the end of third grade.
Tips to improve your student's attendance:
- Avoid extended vacations that require your student to miss school.
- Try to schedule preventative health care appointments for days off of school, or afternoons.
- Set regular homework, bedtime and morning routines to help your student get enough sleep.
- Younger students need 9-11 hours of sleep
- Older students need 8.5- 9.5 hours of sleep
- Make sure that when the lights go out, so do the cell phones, video games and computers. Consider keeping technology in another room at night.
Safety/Emergency Practice
Fire Drill: Friday, September 13th at 10:00 AM
Safety Drill Overview:
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. To ensure we are well-prepared for any emergency, we regularly conduct emergency drills, following the Standard Response Protocol. These drills include Fire Drills, Shelter-In-Place Drills, Earthquake Drills, Secure Now Drills, and Lockdown Drills. Each drill serves an important role in familiarizing students and staff with the proper safety procedures, helping us stay ready in case an emergency arises.
We encourage families to stay informed about these drills and the safety protocols we follow. Having updated emergency contact information for your student is important, so please let us know about any updates. If you'd like more information about the drills or safety procedures, you can visit the I Love U Guys Foundation website or reach out to our office team. Working together, we can help create a safe and prepared environment for all.
Join the Parent-Teacher Organization
We invite all families to join our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and become an integral part of our school community. By participating in the PTO, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with teachers, support school initiatives, and enhance the educational experience for all students. Your involvement can make a significant difference, whether it's through volunteering at events, helping with fundraisers, or contributing your unique skills and perspectives. Together, we can create a supportive and vibrant environment for our students to thrive. Sign up today and be a part of making our school the best it can be! Note: You need to be registered volunteer with the school district to participate in PTO. Here is a link to the form.
Visitors During School Lunch Time
Starting this school year Elementary Schools are no longer allowing family members to come and eat lunch in the cafeteria with their students. You are welcome to pick up your child during lunch and take them to a place to eat and then return with them before the end of the lunch session.
There are several reasons why all HRCSD elementary school principals have landed on this guideline. From our perspective, school lunch is a time for kids to socialize with their peers. Often, a parent's mid-day visit can disrupt routine and impact the flow of the rest of a student's day. Part of the school experience is helping children develop independence and social skills. Lunch is an opportunity for students to interact with their peers, make new friends, and learn to navigate social situations without the presence of their parents. Another reason is space. We have limited space in our cafeteria during our lunches for visitors. We also prioritize the safety and security of all students. Allowing parents or visitors into the lunch area requires additional security measures to ensure that everyone is accounted for and that no unauthorized individuals gain access to the school. One thing we also consider is that allowing some parents to join their children for lunch might create feelings of exclusion among students whose parents cannot or choose not to attend
After School Program - Champions
Parkdale will offer space for two after-school programs this year. One program, the ExCEL program, is funded through a school-based grant and selects students based on academic need and access to educational resources. The other program, called the Champions program, is funded through family registration and payments. To learn more about the Champions program, click the link below:
