Good afternoon, Woodbury Middle School,
As we approach the last week of February, let's take a moment to reflect on what has been a very busy month. Yesterday, we welcomed many families and community members to our pancake breakfast, sponsored by our Alliance leadership team and their advisors, Mr. Brutting and Ms. Chicano. It was wonderful to see so many friends, including Mrs. Greene and Mr. Kornblut. Events like this help our students understand the dedication required to host such a large gathering. I have attached a summary of the many events our student leaders have organized, and we are incredibly proud of their contributions to our school and community.
Please note that our PIM meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday evening must be rescheduled to Tuesday, March 4th, at 6:30 PM in the WMS Library Media Center. Good luck to the Chiefs as they compete for the BL Title against Shepaug!
I would also like to welcome Mr. Nick Spinner to the WMS family. He will be filling in for Ms. Traver, who is currently out caring for her baby boy, born last week.
This is just a reminder that the second trimester ends on March 7th. Please check PowerSchool for missing assignments and attendance records.
Last Friday, over 90% of our students earned the monthly reward. They participated in a fun trivia activity and competed for prizes. A big thank you to Mrs. Shuhart and the PBIS committee for organizing these monthly events.
Please see the Flyer below about spring sports registration.
Have a great week!

Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
