Wilson Reading
Ms. Sorenson
November 26th, 2024
During the month of November students have continued with word work, reviewing and learning new reading concepts to increase their accuracy with more complex word structures.
6th graders have been learning the rules for breaking larger words into syllables to be able to read these words accurately. They have been working on reading multi-syllable words containing closed syllables, prefixes and suffixes.
7th and 8th graders have continued learning about the various vowel team sounds and applying them in multi-syllable words and nonsense words as a challenge. They have also continued their study of text structures with informational passages to practice fluency, discuss vocabulary, and look at different text structures to support comprehension (i.e. descriptive, compare and contrast, cause and effect, and sequence).
As we move into the month of December the 6th grade will be moving on to adding the VCE syllable and long vowel sounds within words they are studying. The 7th and 8th graders will be moving onto spelling rules and patterns related to what to do when adding suffixes.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving
