Week 4
September 2 - September 6, 2024
How Can Parents Help Academically?
Last week we completed our beginning of the year diagnostic assessments that revealed where our students are academically in comparison to the grade level goals. As parents, you may also see the iReady results right on Schoology.
Have your child log in to see their progress. When logging onto iReady, you will always see two subjects: Reading and Math. Once you select a content area, it will show two options: my assignments and my pathway. My assignments are tasks specifically hand-selected for your child by your child's teacher. My pathway are activities specifically designed to support meeting your child where they are at based on their diagnostic data. They can't go wrong engaging in either. The weekly recommendation is 50 minutes of learning on iReady Reading AND 50 minutes of learning on iReady Math on a weekly basis.
Ms. D. Gonzalez and Ms. Salazar, our two interventionists, are hosting an iReady Parent Workshop on Thursday, September 12 via zoom. Please take advantage of their knowledge and log on for some helpful and useful tips on how to help with your child's success this year.
Parent Volunteer Opportunities
To date we have 42 volunteers completely approved. (Purple) We have 25 volunteers who have submitted their TB test but we are still waiting for the district to process the application. (Green) And we have 14 volunteers who are waiting for their TB results, therefore it is incomplete. (Yellow) Please note that if we do not receive your TB results in a timely manner we are required to delete your application and you can apply again when you have the test results.
There is a mandatory ZOOM orientation for all approved volunteers so that you know the policies and procedures as well as the dos and don'ts of volunteering. We have provided three opportunities for you:
- Tuesday, September 3 via zoom
- Thursday, September 5 via zoom
- Thursday, September 19 via zoom
We need help with the following for all processed volunteers available and willing!
- Classroom Support in our Kindergarten classes (ongoing)
- Grandparents Day decoration and activities support (September 6)
- Playground game teachers! (Volunteers for recess and lunch play.)
- Cutting and Copying in the Parent Center (ongoing)
- Hanging up college banners (in approximately 2 weeks)
Thank you to the following parent volunteers for supporting our Book Fair!
Ms. Britney Jaquez, Ms. Laura Cortez, Ms. Janette Espana, and Ms. Carolina Santiago!
College and Career Campaign
Thank you to all of our students who looked brilliant last Wednesday dressed to represent their aspiring careers or future school of choice. Your future is bright! Go seize it!
We had over 200 students signed up for this event. Banners are currently in production. We are looking for a team of parent volunteer to support us in hanging the beautiful banners around our campus in about two weeks. Please contact Ms. Jenn (jennifer.garcia19@lausd.net) or Ms. Hoffer (gxa9669@lausd.net) if you'd like to help.
Check out the sneak peek of the images below. On our final product, the cropping will look different than my video and the affirmation the students selected will be printed on the bottom. Stay tuned and thank you!
Please note that video will not feature any students for which we did not receive Google consent for. We will not print those banners as well.
Back to School Night
Thank you families for your support and attendance for Back to School Night. It is important for our students to see that we are connected via home and school and this partnership is solid!
Grandparents Day
Friday, September 6
Thank you to all the families who RSVPed for Grandparents Day! Please remind grandparents to be at school Friday morning by 8:05. Do not park in the valet lanes until after all students are in class.
Grandparents will be invited to accompany their grandchildren to our upper yard for some activities, games and dancing. We are looking for approved parent volunteers who would like to support some of the games/activities we have in place.
We will have a small treat for the grandparents as they exit the event and leave our school at 9:00, so please make sure they pass by me at the exit gate.
September Calendar
On Tuesday, students will be taking home two calendars. One is for general school activities for the month of September and the second is for the parent center workshops and help opportunities. For the sake of our weekly updates, I combined the two in the image above.
One change: Please note that I try to keep the Coffee with the Principal as the first Wednesday of each month. Due to an expected principal's meeting, this week's Zoom will be postponed to Thursday.
