From the fall of the Roman empire through to the 16th century, a distinctive form of medieval garden was the monastic, cloistered courtyard.
At the latest offering at the Hamilton Gardens, you will step back in time to Europe in the Middle Age to a monastery and its two most important gardens, a Cloister Garth Garden and an Apothecary Garden, one a type of courtyard for prayer and meditation, the other for growing medicinal herbs and healing plants which supported the healing of the sick in a monastic hospital

After visiting the gardens we, will travel on to Made, where you can enjoy the variety of shops, have your lunch or a coffee & sort out some prezzies for Christmas (or to treat yourself),

"Made has quickly become a must-visit destination in Hamilton East, being a hub of bustling retailers, foodies, creators and artisans. This urban precinct has breathed new life into the Arawa building on 401 Grey Street, which previously housed the Waikato Regional Council. Inspired by the markets of Melbourne, New York and, more locally, Christchurch’s beloved Riverside Market, the Starks see Made as an opportunity to bring people together and showcase the incredible regional food basket that is the mighty Waikato. The inspiration of Melbourne and New York is reflected in the aesthetic and the industrial yet polished design of the precinct allows each stall and vendor to present their unique brand and personality. A standout of the renovation is the spiral staircase that builds a real connection from the street to the river. The balconies reiterate this connection as they provide sweeping river views across Hamilton’s city centre CBD and to Mount Pirongia.

Everything your heart desires can be found at Made. Set over four levels, it is divided into distinct zones. The Market is where you’ll find stalls that will elevate your grocery shop and provide you with delicious snacks and fuel as you make your way around the rest of the precinct. There’s a butcher, a baker, a refillery, and fresh produce, and you must make a stop at The Larder, this artisan store brings together smaller merchants from the community producing quality goods.

A brick-paved ramp leads you to the Mess Hall, an upmarket food court featuring cuisines and dishes from around the world. You’ll even find some entertainment and activities with The Golf Club’s golf simulator and Singeasy Karaoke. The Mezzanine floor is where the retail outlets have their moment to shine, and the Sheds on the lower level are a mix of eateries and other vendors operating out of larger individual spaces.
