Message from the CEO - Dr. O'Brien
Dear CAPFamilies,
We extend our heartfelt thanks for your support and involvement in creating a wonderful start to the school year. Your dedication to our school community has been instrumental in setting a positive tone for learning, growth, and success. As we approach the holiday season, we hope you take this time to enjoy special moments with loved ones, celebrating together.
During this festive period, we kindly remind you to maintain daily routines that help students stay connected and engaged in their studies. Consistent schedules, including regular sleep, study, and meal times, will support our students in remaining focused and prepared. Your partnership in reinforcing these routines will help students balance the joys of the holidays with the responsibilities of their academic journey.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to our school and our shared goal of nurturing each student’s success. Hope to see everyone at report card conferences this month.

Innovation Highlight
Ms. Ferris' students extended their learning environment this month using virtual reality (VR) goggles. VR goggles enhance learning by immersing students in interactive, 3D environments that make abstract concepts tangible. For example, students can explore historical sites, manipulate molecular structures, or engage in virtual labs, enhancing understanding and retention. The immersive experience encourages active participation, sparking curiosity and making learning more engaging and enjoyable. VR also allows for personalized pacing, as students can revisit complex topics at their own speed. Furthermore, VR supports experiential learning, offering "real-world" practice in safe, controlled settings. By catering to various learning styles, VR can foster deeper comprehension and inspire students to explore topics independently.
Experiential Education Highlight
CAP students trip to the zoo was an immersive, hands-on learning experience that connected them with nature and wildlife. They enjoyed seeing animals up close and that brought their classroom lessons to life, enhancing their understanding of biology, habitats, and conservation. It fosters curiosity, encouraging students to ask questions and learn about the diversity of life on Earth. Interacting with zookeepers and educational displays helps them understand the importance of environmental stewardship. Additionally, their zoo trip provided sensory stimulation and real-world engagement, fostering social skills and teamwork as they explore exhibits together. This experience will leave a lasting impact on their learning journey.
CHIP State Health Insurance for Children
Pennsylvania Act 84 of 2015 requires that public and nonpublic schools receive electronic notice with general information about the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) on an annual basis no later than August 15. The attached flyer was created and should be shared with every parent or guardian of every student enrolled in the local education agency (LEA) during the school year.
CHIP covers uninsured children and teens up to age 19 – and no family earns too much to qualify. With nearly 128,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania, this is great news for families!
CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for routine doctor’s visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health, and much more. CHIP covers uninsured kids who are not eligible for Medical Assistance. For many families, CHIP is free – for others, it is low cost.
