6th Grade Simon Middle School
Greetings From 6th Grade Science!
This nine weeks we will be learning about Properties of Matter and Chemistry. Chemistry is a new TEK for our 6th grade students. Anything you can do at home to support learning is greatly appreciated. Encouraging words are always great! We appreciate all of our parent support greatly. If you would be interested in mentoring a child other than your own, please contact the front office. We would love to have you.

World Cultures
Welcome Parents & Students to 6th Grade World Cultures!
We are excited about the opportunity to travel the globe with your student this year as we study the political, economic, geographic and social influences that shape the people and the places in our world.
This nine-weeks we will practice how to think like a geographer and examine the United States and Canada. This includes studying various types of maps and comparing the similarities and differences between North America’s largest countries.
The majority of our assignments will be distributed digitally through our Schoology course. Be sure to check for teacher lesson plans and student activities regularly in Schoology.
Remember that you can always keep up with your student’s grades by accessing the Parent Portal. The link for the Parent Portal can be found by visiting the Simon website.
Thank you in advance for your support. We look forward to a great year.

6th Grade Math
And we're off! It's been a great start to sixth grade math! This nine weeks, we begin by studying operations with positive fractions and decimals. (TEKS 6.2A and 6.3A,B,E) We will wrap up the nine weeks learning about equivalent forms of fractions, decimals and percents. (TEKS 6.4E,F,G and 6.5B,C) These two units are very computationally heavy. Your kiddos are working super hard! Please help support their efforts by checking their grades via the parent portal and looking at our lesson plans daily to see what material we are covering in class. Encourage them to get a good night's rest and make healthy dietary choices. It truly makes a difference! Thank you for all you do! Go Wolverines!

English Language Arts
Hello from 6th grade ELA! We have had so much fun getting to know each other this past week and going over classroom procedure and expectations. I am looking forward to diving into our curriculum on Monday 8/22/22. We will begin Unit 1 “Finding Courage” as our theme. Using this theme, we will be discussing and working on authors purpose and inferencing. As soon as students receive their technology, we will complete our BOY Reading plus assessment. This will target areas for growth and goals for our students. Please reach out if you have any questions. Mrs. Gonzalez & Mr. Wortel

Greetings from 6th grade STEAM!!
This nine weeks we will be learning about Photoshop! How to use it and the technicalities of the program. One thing you can do at home is to encourage your student to utilize this free version of a Photoshop-esque program called, Photopea.com, to help them get more familiar with Photoshop.
Mr. Burge
Greetings from 6th Grade Art!
My name is Ms. Monroe and this is my first year at Simon Middle School. Some of you may recognize my name, as I have taught elementary art at Hemphill for the past 5 years. I am so excited to have moved up with my students and to work with new students! This nine weeks, we will be exploring and reviewing key vocabulary in the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. These are the important "ingredients" we will be using throughout the year. We will also be starting our unit in drawing. Many students have expressed interest in learning to draw the human face and hands to scale. We will also be focusing on drawing in different perspectives. I look forward to a great year with our Simon Wolverines!
