Free Summer Meals
Oak Harbor Public Schools is excited to host the 11th annual Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Monday through Friday, June 24 through August 16. SFSP is a federally funded, state-administered program designed to serve free meals to all children 18 years and under during the summer season. No sign-up or registration is required. Visit www.ohsd.net/SummerMeals for more information, including locations and times.
Office Hours
The office will operate on limited summer hours after the last day of school on June 21. The office will be open between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays and closed June 26 through August 2.
School starts Wednesday, September 4, at 8:45 am, for students grades 1 - 4. Kindergarten will start on Monday, September 9, at 8:45 am. Transition to Kindergarten will start Monday, September 16, at 8:45 am.
There will be no parent-teacher conferences before the start of school this year. However, we will host a back-to-school event on Thursday, August 29, 3:30 to 5:30 pm—more information to come in August.
Welcome Back Open House
Join us at our Open House for all families on August 29, from 3:30-5:30 p.m.! Our Open House is an opportunity to tour classes and other spaces at the school and learn more about the school environment. Kindergarten Screening
Save the Date! To get the school year off to a positive start, we would like to meet with each family and student before school starts to talk about the child’s strengths and needs. Students will be assessed for a variety of skills such as letter naming, sounds, counting, etc. The screening will take no more than 15 minutes. If you come to the session in June you do not need to have your student come to the one in August.
WaKIDS Family Connection Days
We can’t wait to get to know our Kindergarten families and welcome our new Kinder students! From September 4-6 Kindergarten families participate in WaKIDS Family Connection Days. The first day of Kindergarten is September 9, at 8:45 am. This event is required for all incoming kindergarten Eagles before your student can start school. School Supplies
OHE will provide basic supplies needed for each student to be prepared for class. These supplies include:
Chromebook
3-ring binder
Spiral or composition notebooks
Writing utensils (pens, pencils, highlighters)
Families are asked to supply the following supplies: backpack, wired headphones, and a water bottle.

Early Release Mondays: 8:45 am - 2:05 pm

8:15: Drop-off starts, students walk on walking path
8:15 - 8:35: Breakfast is served in the cafeteria
8:35: Warning Bell-Students line up & walk to class
8:45: Tardy Bell- Students are expected to be in their classroom ready to learn before the bell rings
3:05: Dismissal Bell (2:05 on Monday)TARDINESS: Students are expected to be in class and ready to learn promptly at 8:45 a.m. Our warning bell rings at 8:35. Students who are late (tardy) must be ESCORTED TO THE OFFICE BY AN ADULT and signed in using a parents government issued ID card. If your child is tardy 4 or more times in a month, you will receive a letter from the Dean requesting a meeting/phone call to resolve the problem.
Medication at School
Medication administration authorizations and health plans must be renewed annually. If your child needs to take medications during school hours, please download the appropriate form from the district Health & Wellness page or pick up a form from our office.
Please have your health care provider complete the health and medication forms before school starts in the fall. The parent/guardian must also sign the form and transport ALL medications to and from school.

Transportation
Do you have a new bus rider or need to request a change from your route last year? Regular transportation is provided for students residing outside the one-mile walking area of their home school attendance area. Bus routes for each upcoming school year are assigned in late August. Please fill out the Transportation Request Form at www.ohsd.net/Transportation as soon as possible to request student transportation or to request a change to your current arrangement. The transportation page also has important information about school bus conduct and safety as well as walking, biking, and driving to school.

Summer Garden Help
Would you like to help out in the O.H.E. garden this summer? We will be outdoors on Saturdays from 8:00-9:00 a.m., and we're looking for 12 student volunteers for each session. Due to limited staffing, a grown-up MUST REMAIN ON SITE with their student. Stay Connected With ParentSquare
Oak Harbor Public Schools uses ParentSquare. ParentSquare provides a simple and safe way for everyone at school to connect. With ParentSquare you’ll be able to:
- Receive all school and classroom communication via email, text, or app
- Communicate in your preferred home language with automatic translation
- Direct message teachers and staff
- Have access to your school's documents and pictures/videos that come in your ParentSquare messages
- Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
- Easily fill out required forms online
Please note that schools do not release class lists until the end of August. When you log onto ParentSquare over the summer you should see your student’s school, but the class lists will not be available until they are released by the schools individually.

Volunteering
Apply to Volunteer
Whether you’d like to volunteer at after school events, in your child’s classroom, or eat lunch with your student, you will need to fill out a volunteer application. Please return your application to our office.
You will be contacted via email once your application has been approved to come into the district office to get your picture taken for your ID badge. These badges must be worn while you are volunteering on any school district property.
Free Meals for 2024/2025 School Year
No Cost Meals for All Elementary Students in 2024-2025
Begining in 2024-2025 school year, all students in our elementary schools will receive one free breakfast and one free lunch serving each day.
To maintain free meals for everyone, it is still important that families fill out the free & reduced meals application every school year.
Reapply and Submit Your Application Annually
The free and reduced program includes one free meal for breakfast and lunch. To maintain free meals for everyone, applications must be submitted every year. If you received assistance last year, it will continue until mid October.
Applications also help to maintain other state educational funding which pays for classroom resources and reduces school fees.
