Spotlight on Mr. Rodriguez
Meet Mr. Rodriguez: "With over 11 years of experience in teaching computer technology and STEAM subjects, I have cultivated a deep passion for educating and inspiring students in the realms of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. My career has been enriched by my work with LEGO, where I had the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge robotics and educational tools. Additionally, I run a non-profit organization dedicated to robotics competitions, where we focus on providing students with hands-on learning experiences and fostering their interest in STEM fields."

Mrs. Lomeli's Grandparents Day Tea
As part of the second-grade social studies curriculum, students will be discovering how daily life has changed over time. A powerful way to learn about the past and our family history is through listening to stories from our elders. To commence the Heritage Unit, Room 4 Scholars invited grandparents for a Grandparents' Tea. The grandparents sat with the scholars and shared stories of their own youth and school days, then had a few treats in the style of a “tea.” This memorable event helped our young scholars practice speaking and listening skills, and more importantly learn about the importance of oral history that can be passed down through generations."
Fun Fact: Grandparents' Day or National Grandparents' Day is a secular holiday celebrated in various countries; it is celebrated to show the bond between grandparents and grandchildren. It occurs on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

BSC September Meeting Recap & Upcoming October Events
S.T.E.M. Night - September 27
BSC held their September Meeting last week and reviewed a few key initiatives. Here are the highlights in case you missed our zoom!
- Water Fountains: Work is well underway to install new bottle fillers and water fountains. Plumbing and electrical work appear to be completed. Installation of fountains and water testing should follow in the coming days.
- Fencing: We have received quotes for 2 vendors for a graphic mesh material and a grass/turf style covering and are seeking a quote for slats from an approved LAUSD vendor
- Murals: The district gave Balboa a fresh coat of paint a year ago and we are looking for new murals and art for the bare walls around campus. Please let us know if you know any artists/muralists that create works that are appropriate for our space and might be interested in the opportunity.
- Upcoming Events: Harvest Pumpkin Festival - Tuesday, October 22, 2:00 – 5:00PM
- Next BSC Meeting: Tentatively Tuesday, Oct 15, 2024, 8:30 AM in the PTR and Zoom.
