Fall is in the Air!

Welcome to the Counseling Corner. My name is Jennifer Mayo and I am so excited to serve students and families at Greystone Elementary. Each month I will send out a newsletter to share our monthly character trait, events, family resources and more.

October Character Trait

Self - Control

Self-control is the Character trait we will focus on for October. Self-control is choosing to do what's best even when you don't want to. Many strategies can help us show self-control, including deep breathing, taking a break, pausing, and thinking about our next steps. This month, observe your child's behavior at home; when they exercise self-control, praise them for using it! Let's make self-control a focus not only for school but also at home.

October is National Bulllying Awareness Month

During the month of October, we will also discuss what bullying is and how we can advocate for ourselves and others. For more information and resources go to www.stopbullying.gov

Peer Helpers

We are excited to announce that we are starting a group on our campus called Peer Helpers. We are looking for students who understand that life can be tough sometimes, students who show kindness and acceptance toward others, and those who want to work to lend a helping hand. If you think being good to people is important and you want to learn new ways to help your classmates, then this may be the group for you.Once selected, Peer Helpers will be learning new ways to communicate with students and supporting students in need by serving in different ways throughout the year.

If your child is a fifth- grade student and expressed interest in applying to become a Peer Helper, they were given an application to complete and return to Mrs. Mayo. Please take a few minutes to review their application and sign. Applications are due by Thursday, October 10th. Peer Helpers will be announced on Friday, October 18th. Mrs. Mayo spoke to all fifth-grade classes about the program. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to contact her via email.
