The Amherst Marching Comets
The Amherst Marching comets have had another great year! Coming in first place at the Perkins High School Competition, the band opened their season of success continuing the long tradition of wins and Grand Champion statuses. A few weeks ago with their show a little more towards completion the band narrowly won Grand Champion at the Norton Competition by only a few 10ths of a point above Mentor High School. Putting the last finishing touches on their Haunted Castle show, the band went out this past Saturday at Brunswick and competed against 17 bands seeing some of the same programs they competed against during the season. With many other marching bands looking to outscore the Comets at this show, the band was able to clinch yet another Grand Champion title out scoring some of the top bands in the area.
This week is the busiest week for the Marching Comets as they will perform Friday morning on Fox8 News with Kickin It With Kenny. They will perform at State Marching Band Finals in Columbus, Ohio for the 21st year in a row on Saturday. Then on Sunday, the band will march in the annual Amherst Halloween Parade.
It has been a great season and the band would like to thank its fans, the student body, and the administration for all their support.
Go Marching Comets!

JVS Portrait proofs will be delivered to the JVS and will be ready for pickup at the JVS on Monday, October 30th as well. After you pick them up, there are a few things you need to to consider:
- If you plan on ordering pictures after Nov. 8th, or you do not want to order any pictures, we still request that you write in the image file name for the pose you want in the yearbook in the "Yearbook Photo Selection" box on the form and turn it into Mrs. Arendash in the office by Nov. 8th. If you do not pick a pose for the yearbook by Nov. 8th, we will choose one for you.
- If you would like to order pictures, you can order online using the site and password on your portrait proof page. If you order only one pose online by November 8th, that will be the photo we use in the yearbook, but if you order multiple poses online, please write in the image file name for the pose you want in the yearbook in the "Yearbook Photo Selection" box on the order form and turn into Mrs. Arendash by November 8th so we know what pose you want in the yearbook.
- If you would like to order from the proof sheet, simply fill out the form, making sure you write in the image file name for the pose you want in the yearbook in the "Yearbook Photo Selection" box, choose all of your purchase options, enclose your payment, and turn into Mrs. Arendash in the office by Nov. 8th.

SPANISH 1 with Señora Layport
In Ms. Layport inclusive classroom, students who are taking Spanish level 1 are learning and practicing content from their first Unit “¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? At this point students can greet and say goodbye, identify themselves, count 0-31, say the Spanish alphabet, and tell time (still working on it). Spanish 1 students are having great success with the daily use of advanced technology including AI. Lessons are delivered and differentiated by integrating advanced technology such as Newline Smart Board, Chromebook, and Vista High Learning Spanish 1 Program. Students’ engagement and motivation have been increased thanks to the variety of resources posted in Google Classroom. Each unit is organized by modules where students can find lesson plan reviews ("Contextos" and "Estructuras''), games (Quizziz, Kahoot and Quizlet), quizzes (Google Form), projects (Video presentations), Spanish authentic material (Ads, books, Websites, etc), forums with cultural essential questions, unit’s auto evaluation "I can'' document, study guide, and the unit exam.
SPANISH 2 with Señora Volzer:
In level 2 students are exploring the Unit on Travel and the Weather! As we learn vocabulary very relevant to life such as "How's the Weather?", stating what we like to do depending on the weather, commenting on where we would like to travel and by which means of transportation and what we are doing on vacation and how we feel.
We are also taking mini "in class field trips" to explore other cultures while we are learning the vocabulary and grammar of the lesson.
We will conclude this unit by each student creating (in Spanish) a travel "documentary" to a Spanish-speaking city of choice that they will present to the class.
SPANISH 3 with Señora Kasnyik:
Level 3 Spanish is honing in on their preterite tense skills by describing historical events in Spain. All classes are also competing in an international song competition while learning new vocabulary and grammar structures within those songs. This year the focus is on the music genres of bachata, cumbia, rock and reggaeton.
French with Madame Gorodea:
In the French classes, we are focusing on improving oral communication skills, through a variety of conversational activities. In today's world, where face-to-face communication is often replaced by a wide array of digitalized interactions, it is beneficial to re-examine the "art of conversation", and learn how to communicate effectively, while learning French, getting better at English, and having educational fun.
