Pre-Professional Advising Office will be offering a Health Disparities and Equity Certificate program
NOTE: This is not an official UGA Certificate Program, and currently it does not cover the EL requirement
The Pre-Professional Advising Office will be offering a Health Disparities and Equity Certificate program. The overall goal is to increase awareness and develop best practices when working with vulnerable populations in the context of healthcare. Students from all majors are welcome to participate. We have speakers discussing disability, global health, LGBTQ, African American, and Latinx health disparities and best practices. The last session will be a chance for you to discuss what you have learned in the program and listen to other students in a structured reflective dialogue. Completion of the program will result in a certificate of participation which can be included in your CV or professional school application. There are 4 components that you must complete in order to earn the certificate:
If you sign up for this program, you are committing to attend at least 4 out of 5 presentations listed below: • African American Health Disparities: Monday, February 3rd @ 5:00-6:00 PM (Location TBD) • Global Health Disparities: Monday, February 24th @ 3:30-4:30 PM in MLC 250 • LGBTQ Health Disparities: Thursday, February, 27th@ 5:00-6:00 PM in MLC 350 • Latinx Health Disparities: Monday, March 2nd @ 5:00-6:00 PM (Location TBD) • Disability Health Disparities: Tuesday, March 17th @ 5:00-6:00 PM in MLC 148

You must complete 45 hours of volunteering for an organization (on campus or in the community) that serves vulnerable and/or medically underserved populations. Please note, we do not place students into volunteer opportunities. You are responsible for finding an organization and are welcome to select anything you are passionate about provided that it fits the goal of the program.
Submit a 1-page reflection on your experience in the program and how this experience will be beneficial in your future.
The requirements for the certificate must be completed during the Spring 2020 – i.e. in addition to the presentations, you must complete the 45 hours of volunteering. Please click here to sign-up.
