October Life Skill for the Month- “Friendship”
Friendship is to make and keep a friend through mutual trust and caring.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month- During the month of October students will learn ways to make and keep friends by recognizing the qualities of a friend and practicing communication skills that improve peer interactions. Concepts such as “fairness” and “forgiveness” will be discussed in Guidance in an effort to help students recognize that making and keeping friends takes effort and care. It’s difficult to imagine life without friends to share our ups and downs. Having a friend improves self-esteem, as well as the quality and enjoyment of life. Encourage your child to read books about friendship.
Unity Day- Together against bullying — united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. All students are asked to wear ORANGE on October 16th. That’s the day everyone can come together—in schools and communities— and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are united against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. During class students will discuss the word “Unity” and reflect on the statement, “When we stand together, no one stands alone.” Please talk to your child about the meaning of this statement and remind them to show kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Friendship Books:
-How to Make Friends with a Giant by Gennifer Choldenko
-Friends to the End For Kids: The True Value of Friendship by Bradley Trevor Greive
-Enemy Pie by Derek Munson
-Our Friendship Rules by Peggy Moss and Dee Dee Tardif

SCHOOL SPIRIT
Let's show our school spirit!
Students are encouraged to wear school colors or Kingston T-shirts every Friday. School colors are blue and white. Wearing school colors each week is a proactive way of reminding students to maintain our safe and caring school. Each class that has at least 50% or more students wearing school colors will have their class name entered in a drawing. Two classes will win the Cool Cat sign to be placed on their door for the week, as well as some type of incentive (candy, ice cream, chips, etc). Each week we hope to choose a different class. Please encourage your child to participate in Spirit Day every Friday!
Congratulations to our Spirit Day Winners Last Week Miss Rosales' 1st-grade class and Mr. Hatfield's 5th-grade class.
