WMS LIBRARY INSTAGRAM
The WMS Library has a new Instagram account! Follow @watertown.middle.library to see posts about new books and projects our library helpers have been working on. Our first post featured images of library volunteers as they make bookmarks for students to take when they check out books from the library.
6th GRADE CELL MUSEUM
This sixth grade was hard at work creating 3D models of various cell organelles (small structures that make up the cell) before February vacation. Their incredible work is now on display in the WMS library for all to see! Stop by and see how our 6th grade used their creativity to make vacuoles, cell membranes, nuclei, etc. Teachers that would like to visit the cell museum with their classes are able to sign up using a Google doc that was sent out in morning announcements.
BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK
Our “Blind Date with a Book” shelf is back! Throughout the entire month of February, library student volunteers have been selecting their favorite books to include in the display. Our volunteers wrap the book and write a short bio meant to pique the interest of students that stop by in search of something new to read. Our blind date with a book is a fun way of selecting a book that you might not otherwise choose on your own. This is our second year doing this display in February and both years have been a great success! Thank you to all our volunteers who contributed.
WMS LITERACY UPDATE
OUR VISIT TO 5TH GRADE ELA
Recently, our 6th grade English teachers, Zack Allen and Ziza Soares, visited some 5th grade English classes at Lowell Elementary. This gave us a chance to connect with teachers, to strengthen our cross-school partnership, and to learn more about 5th grade expectations. We had a chance to see the new ELA program, Wit & Wisdom, in action. We were struck by the level of deep thinking students engaged in while reading a mentor text. The 5th grade teachers have been working hard to implement this program, and their hard work is paying off. We hope to continue this partnership so that we can use the structure and the vocabulary introduced in Wit & Wisdom so that students have an aligned experience from 5th to 6th grade.
