Black History Month Celebration
February is dedicated to the celebration of Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. We are proud to celebrate and honor the contributions, past and present, of African Americans in the United States. We encourage all HBMS students and staff to join in the celebration the week of February 26 in addition to the activities that teachers are incorporating into lessons this month and throughout the year.
Student Laptops
Each student has the opportunity to be issued a laptop for school use. We need parents to help us improve the number of students who come to school daily with a charged laptop. We do NOT have loaner laptops available for students in our inventory. Create a routine at home for students to plug in their laptop each night before bed, and bring their laptop to school every day! Thank you for your support.
Annual Parent Perception Survey
At Fulton County Schools, we truly value the feedback from our parents about their experiences with the district. That is why I encourage all parents to take the Annual Parent Perception Survey. This survey allows parents the opportunity to tell us what they think about their student’s schools and the district. While we always make it a priority to listen to our parents, this survey affords us another opportunity to receive your thoughts and opinions.
The survey is anonymous and confidential. Please complete one survey per school where you have one or more students enrolled. The survey will remain open from Monday, February 12 through Friday, March 15.
It’s not only parents we want to hear from. Our students’ opinions are important too! Students in grades 3-12 will be provided with the opportunity to take the Annual Student Perception Survey between February 12 and March 15 during the school day. In our ongoing efforts to remain transparent with parents, please take a moment to review the 6-12 Student Survey.
The Annual Perception Survey is currently available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Hindi, and Punjabi. If you or your family would like to take it in a language that is not listed, please email your child’s principal.
To access the parent survey, click https://www.fultonschools.org/annualparentsurvey . Thank you in advance for making your voice heard!

School Governance Council Candidates Needed!
The purpose of the School Governance Council (SGC) is to provide parents, staff, and community members with leadership roles through monitoring and implementing the strategic plan. All SGC members serve two-year terms. We have TWO parent seats up for election this year. SGC is a small time commitment, as the council only meets about 6 times per school year.
Visit the SGC website and click on Elections for a candidate guide and/or declaration. www.fultonschools.org/sgc
Attendance Matters ALL DAY, EVERYDAY
If you haven't done so already, now is a great time to check in on your child's school attendance. You can do so via the parent portal. Click HERE to sign up. Daily and on time attendance is crucial to your child's academic success and future! 🙂
WHEN DO ABSENCES BECOME A PROBLEM?
GOOD ATTENDANCE: 5 or fewer absences
WARNING SIGNS: 6 to 10 days
CHRONIC ABSENCE: 10 days or more
Have a planned absence or emergency? Contact the school to request a "participate remotely" day. Students can use up to 5 per semester and the day be considered "present"!

Hardship Transfers for 2024-25 School year
Applications for Fulton County Schools (FCS) are available beginning January 1, 2024 for parents who wish to apply for a 2024-25 hardship transfer or to renew a current hardship to another FCS elementary, middle, or high school.
Parents will use an online form, available through the school system’s website, to enter and submit their information. Hard copy applications are not required, except for medical transfers which require a pertinent medical provider’s signature and documentation.
The deadline for submitting a transfer application is Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, by 4:30 p.m., with no exceptions or extensions granted. All requests must be received or postmarked by this date and time. In addition, school system employees who have children receiving an employee hardship transfer must renew their request.
The February 29 deadline applies to students and parents seeking a hardship transfer for medical reasons, curriculum differences, and childcare situations or for employees’ children. Schools participating in open enrollment, a separate transfer process that allows students to move to a school with available space, will be announced in early May.
Parents with questions or who need more information about hardship transfers can contact the Fulton County Schools’ Student Assignment Office at 470-254-5550 or visit the FCS Hardship Transfer webpage.
