MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL VAN

Greetings Salemwood Families!

Wow we are already into December and 2021 is almost over! We look forward to welcoming 2022! As I look back onto 2021, I am very fortunate for all the wonderful, hard working, dedicated Salemwood staff and educators that I am lucky to work alongside each and every day. I am also very lucky to be able to have all our students in school. On behalf of our Salemwood family, we wish you a happy and safe holiday season.

Families needing help or Families wishing to help others:

With the holidays coming up, if you or someone you know is struggling and are in need assistance, please email me so that we can connect you to resources/supports. If you would like to donate to our Salemwood families, you are welcome to send a check made out to Salemwood School. The money will be put towards assisting a student or family in need.

We have a Salemwood Boutique that has new or slightly used clothing, coats, jogging pants, socks, underwear, etc. that our students and families can "shop" at. We are always looking for donations of clothing, especially different size jogging pants, new socks and underwear.

We also have 2 clothing bins that are located on the K-4 and 5-8 plaza. If you are cleaning out your closet and are getting rid of your clothes or bedsheets, shoes, etc. you can drop them off in the bins. Our school benefits from the items that you place into these bins.

Cold Weather/ School Drop Off Reminder

With the weather getting colder, please make sure that our students are arriving to school as close to the time that school start times as possible. Unfortunately, we do not have any additional staff to supervise our students before the start of the school day. We appreciate your support and understanding. Kindergarten- Grade 6 school hours are 8:15am-2:15pm; Grade 7 and Grade 8 school hours are 8am-2:20pm.

We are humbled by the generosity of our staff and Salemwood families who donated this year to Bread of Life. This year our community left Ms. Kalman speechless as she has never before needed 2 cars to drop off donations! The donations from Salmewood TOTALLY filled 2 cars with goods needed to support our community.

SPIRIT WEEK FUN

November 22nd to November 24th was Spirit Week at Salemwood! If you missed this past Spirit Week, don't worry! Starting December 8th through December 23rd, we are counting down the 12 days to winter break with Spirit days.

IMPORTANT DATES AND EVENTS

December 1st: Quarter 1 Conferences. Conferences are in person at Salemwood School from 6-7:30PM.

December 4th: K-5 Winter Festival11am-1PM. Tickets are on sale for $5 per person. No tickets will be sold at the door.

December 6th: School Committee Meeting. In-person and remote options available.

December 7th: MPS Title-1 Math Night hosted at Salemwood. Event starts at 6PM.

December 13: Monday December 13 from 3-10PM Texas Roadhouse Fundraisr. 20% of sales goes to support the Salemwood School.

December 13: Monday December 13, from 3PM-10PM Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser- 20% of sales goes to Salemwood.

December 20th: Progress reports distributed. K-4 progress reports will be printed and sent home with students. 5-8 Progress reports are available in the ASPEN portal.

December 21: School Council Meeting at 6:30 (Zoom)

December 23rd: Dismissal at 11AM. No lunch served.

December 24th to December 31st: No School, Winter Break

January 3: School Resumes

Reminder

School meets every day, Monday through Friday. Please find your student's grade below for start times.

K-6: 8:15 A.M. – 2:15 P.M.

7 & 8: 8AM – 2:20 P.M.

Each month I'd like to spot-light Salemwood Staff to help our community members get connected. This month, I am happy to introduce our amazingly hard working Assistant Principals, Ms. Lauren McGonagle and Ms. Jane Wright. I am very fortunate to work alongside our these incredible staff members.

MS. LAUREN MCGONAGLE, ASST. PRINCIPAL

My name is Ms. McGonagle and I am one of the Assistant Principals. I have worked at Salemwood for 10 years and this is my 5th year as Assistant Principal. I absolutely love working at Salemwood and would not want to be anywhere else. My favorite part of this job is working with the students and assisting them through their years at school.

MS. JANE WRIGHT, ASST. PRINCIPAL

I consider myself fortunate to work at the Salemwood School. I was a seventh grade teacher when the Salemwood School first opened! I taught for twenty four years (twenty of them as a middle school teacher) before becoming an Assistant Principal. This is my fourth year as an AP and I enjoy working with the staff, students and families every day.
