Braeside High School
Weekly Newsletter - Issue 8
From the Headteacher's Desk
We have come to the end of week 9. I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for the support you have accorded us and the Braestars so far.
The Power of Visuals
This week, the High School students have been taking individual and group photos. It was not just standing and posing before the lens of the camera but a group representing different cultures in search of social and academic excellence in a beautiful community. It was a dazzling assemblage of confident students reaffirming their enduring spirit to work towards their mutual gain. My sincere appreciation goes to all parents and guardians for making this exercise successful.

2022 Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards Ceremony
Every year Pearson BTEC recognises and celebrates learners around the world who have demonstrated academic excellence at the very highest levels in their exam performance. The Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards (OPLAs) are presented to those learners in each examination series who have achieved the highest subject mark in their country, in the region and around the world. In this regard, our Braestars from BTEC class of 2022 were recognised for their achievements as “Outstanding BTEC students of the year”. Matthew M, Fiona M, Husayn T and Jermaine K, who were taking BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business scored straight distinctions in all the units they did. The colourful ceremony took place at Emara Ole-Sereni Hotel Nairobi on 4th March 2023 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Once again congratulations to our Braestars!!
Year 10 BTEC International Level 2 in Business (PSA)
The cohort of 26 students got engaged this week for a formal Pearson assessment popularly known as PSA where learners are given an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to research on a topic and write an independent academic report/presentation which is assessed as part of their course in the programme. The controlled assessment exercise took 3 days: Tuesday, 7th - Thursday, 9th March 2023.
Year 9 Careers Clinic 2023
The year 9 students are going to be introduced to the IGCSE and BTEC Level 2 syllabus next term and this means that they have started a journey towards realising their abilities and interests in various subject choices hence taking a career path. In view of this, a careers clinic was organised as an early intervention measure. Different professionals talked to the students and gave them a touch of what the journey is like. The students got an opportunity to ask questions about their areas of interest in the future.
Year 12 PSHE Lesson on Basic Car Maintenance Skills
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is one of the integral programmes we have in Braeside. In this, students gain knowledge and skills that empower them to deal with contemporary issues in the society such as mental health related and financial literacy. On Friday 10th March, the year 12 students spent their lesson outside learning about the basic car maintenance skills and safety precautions while on the road. They got an opportunity to change wheels and check engine oil. It was an exciting lesson to most of them. A big thank you to the transport department for taking their time to impart the skills to the learners.
