Homecoming Dance Reminders & Expectations
Our Homecoming Dance is set for Saturday, September 17, at 6:00 pm! Here are important rules and expectations to review before attending the dance:
- The entrance to the dance is at the gate, entering the gym in the student parking lot.
- Students must bring their ID to get scanned into the dance.
- Students must be with their DATE when checking in. (If you purchased tickets together)
- Gates will open at 6:00 pm to begin entering the dance.
- Students must arrive no later than 7:30 pm.
- Students may begin leaving the dance at 8:00 pm.
- Security will do a quick search at the gate upon entering the dance.
- The following items are not allowed into the dance: bottles, containers, liquids, food, gum, pepper spray, lighters, sharp objects, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, drug paraphernalia, and markers.
- No loitering in the parking lot. Security will be doing parking lot checks and car checks periodically throughout the night.
- School rules will still be implemented. If any school rules are violated, parents will be notified and consequences will be applied.
- Please make sure your child is picked up by 10:00 pm.
Nine Students Earn College Board National Recognition Program Awards
Congrats to nine Walnut High School students who were recently recognized by College Board as National Recognition Program awardees. Colleges and scholarship programs use these honors to identify students from underrepresented communities through College Board’s Student Search Service. These students earned this recognition by placing in the top 3% in the country on their PSAT/NMSQT, earning passing scores on multiple AP exams, and maintaining a high GPA in their classes.
Students receive their awards in time to include them on their college and scholarship applications. Congrats to the following Mustangs on this prestigious honor:

five Walnut High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Continuing a tradition of excellence, five Walnut High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.
These high-achieving students represent the top 1% in the country.
Congrats to the following Seniors: Samuel Chou, Hudson Kaleb Dy, Shani Su, Chelsea Yeh, Jadon Zhu.
The nationwide pool of approximately 16,000 semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
All semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,200 National Merit Scholarship awards worth more than $28 million to be awarded next spring.
Students entered the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT Test as juniors which served as the initial screen of program entrants.
To move onto the finalist round, students are judged based on a detailed scholarship application covering their academic record, leadership abilities, employment, participation in school and community activities, and honors and awards received.
Students must also write an essay and be recommended by a high school official.

Don't miss out! The first Student Think Tank Meeting of 2022 is on 9/21 during lunch. Lunch will be provided. Each meeting, the Student Think Tank covers a goal or area of growth that we work on as a group.
The purpose of the Student Think Tank is to create and implement goals through student input into areas that impact student performance, safety and security, mental health, and other areas of concern. - Make sure you are in your teacher's AP Classroom.
- AP student presentation during TUTORIAL in the PAC: 9th and 11th grades- September 27th and 10th and 12th grades- September 29th
October 2022
- AP Exam Payment and Registration October 24th-28th.
- Students will be invited by last name (alpha order)

- AP EXAM PAYMENT DEADLINE WITH NO PENALTY FEE IS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10th.
- Any exam ordered after will accrue a $40 late fee + $100.

Dear WVUSD Parents,
Walnut Valley USD is excited to host this year’s Parent Symposium on Saturday, October 1 at Walnut High School from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Nancy Frey, co-author of “All Learning Is Social and Emotional” and “Your Students, My Students, Our Students”.
After the keynote, parents will have the opportunity to attend two different break-out sessions.

SCHOOL LUNCH POLICY
Due to many problems and safety issues we DO NOT allow student lunches to be delivered anywhere on campus.
Food, drinks or other items are NOT to be passed to students through the fence. This is strictly prohibited.
Outside Food Delivery Services such as UBER Eats/Door Dash is strictly prohibited. Food will be confiscated if deliveries are dropped off.
We understand the importance of student nutrition but we encourage students to either use the free lunch at school or bring their lunch from home.

2022-2023 Rules & Expectations at Walnut High School
Parents: One thing you will notice this year are tardy or cell phone detention automated emails. If your child was issued a detention for excessive tardies or a cell phone violation, you will get an email with information on the detention they need to serve.
STUDENT CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
ATTENDANCE COUNTS!
Please remember that attendance counts, every period, every day. Students will be marked absent if they are not at the beginning of each period to verify their attendance.
All single-period absences will need to be reconciled through the attendance office by the student. If marked absent, students will receive an email from the attendance office notifying them that they have been marked absent. The notification will include the date and period of the absence. The student will need to contact the Attendance Department to make any necessary corrections to their individual period attendance. For full-day absences, a parent/guardian must contact the attendance office by the end of the day.
