Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign
Notes From the Principal's Desk
April 25, 2025
Olathe North families,
Welcome to the ONHS Admin Corner: Notes From the Desk of Mr. Herman.
Thank you to the Olathe North Peer Mentors and their campaign "Spread the Word to End the Word" (see the video and pictures above). Our amazing staff and students support everyone in our building and we stand together to change the belief that it is ok to use that word. Great Job!!!!
As we transition from April to May remember to keep an eye on students assignments and grades through StudentVUE or ParentVUE https://parentvue.olatheschools.com/PXP2_Login_Parent.aspx?regenerateSessionId=true
Make sure that you are reviewing emails and information in this blog as we are nearing the end of the school year. There is so much information we need to share with parents and we don't want anybody to miss it. Have a great weekend.
A Principal's Rant!!!
Attendance: Olathe North is holding a second semester attendance challenge where we will be drawing winners with great attendance, grades and behavior. Do not let your students take a day off, do not call your students out to go get lunch, do not schedule appointments during the school day. Teach our students resilience, help them realize it is difficult to go to school everyday and grind through 4th quarter. Understanding that we can survive difficult builds character in our children. If we as parents allow them the easy way out what are we teaching them? Amazingly, we hold your students accountable at school and they rise to the occasion. Are you holding your kiddo accountable at home? This is another challenge as a community!!! Let's help our students learn what it means to be resilient.
We have a lot of events that occur during the school year, please make sure that you are always checking https://www.sunflowerleague.org/g5-bin/client.cgi?G5genie=403 Sunflowerleague.org to see the building live calendar. I will also try to get many of the events on important date information below.

Celebrate our Staff!!!!
May is the month for celebrating our seniors that are graduating on the 17th and the end of another year of accomplishments and success for the students at Olathe North. We also need to celebrate our staff that work hard year after year to help students succeed in the classroom and in their sports and extracurricular activities. Students tell us that one of the things that makes Olathe North special is the staff that they have working with them through their four years of high school. No matter who the staff member is, we would love for families to write a few words of appreciation about those amazing people. Whether it is a coach your student had for 9th grade basketball, a teacher your student currently has, or any number of other caring adults that come to Olathe North each day to help students succeed. Parents or students can complete the forms on the following links and then those positive words will be presented to the staff member starting in May. Families can submit as many forms as they would like. Our goal would be to have every adult that works in our building to receive some positive recognition and a word of thanks. Thank you all for helping us reach our goal and showing our entire staff how much they matter.

Windows 11 update for student Devices
I wanted to let you know that tech support is preparing to roll out Windows 11 to student devices across the district. With support for Windows 10 nearing its end, now is the right time to begin updating devices โ especially since many of your students already have Windows 11 or are nearly ready for the upgrade.
In our building, a significant portion of devices are already running Windows 11. For those that still need the update, the process will begin in the background and wonโt interrupt learning โ it will only install upon the next device reboot.
Please make sure that your student is updating and restarting their laptops. Thank you.

Senior Picnic Information
There are always a lot of questions about the details of the picnic. Please share!
The big questions are:
- Do I have to go? Nope, but do not come to school that day.
- Do I have to ride the bus? Yep. District rules, not ours.
- What if I drive? We will send you home.
- Do I have to pay the $10 for food? Yep, we are catering this year to make it easier on everyone. (If you choose not to eat and bring food, totally fine! Think of it as paying for the bus and inflatable rentals.)
- How do I pay? Through their student account in the InTouch system or the QR code in the other flier.
Hope this helps!
