Principal's Message
Dear Bonita Vista Middle School Community,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and that you and your family had a wonderful weekend! Watching the Padres have a little success over the weekend was lovely! More importantly, we want to remind you that progress report two grades will be published this Friday, April 19. You can also view your student's grades via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal on Friday. We kindly ask for your help in maintaining an academic focus for our students as we approach this critical date. Additionally, we are just three weeks from state-wide testing (SBAC) in English, Math, and Science, beginning on May 6. We encourage you to continue to support your children in their studies and encourage them to do their best on these crucial tests.
In addition to our academic focus, as you know, we are committed to creating a positive student culture at Bonita Vista Middle School. As part of our ongoing efforts, we will ask students to fill out empathy interview surveys to understand better why some of our students connect well to school while others do not. The survey will go out to all students during their advisory period on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Finally, we want to remind you to check out our latest California Healthy Kids Survey results. We have included some comparison data free of any narrative to allow you to interpret and draw conclusions. A healthy and safe environment is essential for student success, and we are committed to improving in this area. As always, please check out the rest of this week's events. Let's have a fantastic week, Crusader parents!
Warm Regards,
Alex Salazar

Crusader of the Week 8th Grade: Max Sanchez Losada
Nominated by Ms. Heredia, Max Sanchez Losada. Max's journey in English class is a compelling story of perseverance and tremendous growth. At the beginning of the year, Max faced challenges with reading comprehension and expressing his ideas clearly in writing. However, his unwavering commitment to improvement has been nothing short of inspirational. With each passing week, his efforts paid off spectacularly, as evidenced by a marked improvement in his essay scores and a newfound confidence in participating in class discussions. Max's transformation is a testament to his hard work. His progress not only reflects in his grades, but also in his enthusiastic engagement in class, making him a shining example of personal and academic development in English class.
Bonita Vista Middle School: A Unified Champions School
Did you know Bonita Vista Middle School is a Unified Champion Middle School? This means we are dedicated to pairing athletes with disabilities with partners (students without disabilities) to promote an inclusive and accepting school community. We aim to activate youth, engage educators, and create a positive change within our school. Let's work together to make a difference!
Thanks to Ms. Ehrig, last Thursday, April 11, we hosted a UNIFIED Basketball Tournament with Rancho Del Rey and Granger Junior High. The Special Olympics sponsored this event, and it was an opportunity for us to show our support for our athletes and student partners. During our students' respective lunches periods students were welcomed to watch the games and cheer on their classmates. Our 7th graders had an opportunity to watch the exciting tournament. Unfortunately, the tournament ended early due to BVM winning their games so quickly! Great job to all our student-athletes and thank you for representing our school proudly! For more information on Unified Champion Schools please check out the Power Point below!

Stanford Summer Mentorship 2024 Program (Virtual)
Message from Stanford University Representative:
My name is Brian, and I am a graduate student at Stanford University. I am sharing the application for our Summer Mentorship Program 2024 for grades 6-12 students. Our outreach team members familiar with Bonita Vista Middle thought that students from your school might be interested in applying.
Organized by Stanford University undergraduate and graduate students, Qualia Global Scholars is a selective pre-collegiate virtual summer mentorship program matching talented students in grades 6-12 with Stanford mentors. The program features personalized mentorship, interdisciplinary research, project-based learning, and guidance on college applications. The program aims to empower students to become future global leaders by teaching them about leadership & problem solving, emerging areas in STEM & liberal arts, critical thinking & communication skills, and real-world impact through research & innovation. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Need-based financial aid is available for the program.
I have attached the flyer with program info (also linked here).
