Principal's Message
Dear Dolvin Families,
We have had a great start to the year! I want to thank everyone for their support in our common vision: “For all students to learn to their full potential”. Thank you to everyone who was able to come to curriculum night, I hope you enjoyed the presentations prepared by our amazing teachers. If you were not able to make it due to childcare or scheduling conflicts, do not worry! Just reach out to your child’s teacher and they will be able to provide the PowerPoint. We also will have parent-teacher conferences in the month of October.
Thank you,
Andy Stein

Foundation News
Welcome Back!
Hello DolvINcredible families! We hope your year is off to a great start. With this being the Foundation's 25th Anniversary, we have lots in store for a fin-tastic year!
Direct Giving - Donate Now!
Our fall fundraiser is in full swing, with approximately $13,000 raised so far! THANK YOU to all the families and staff who have contributed - your donations help provide the educational resources Dolvin needs, so you are truly helping Support the Foundation for Success.
One key project we'd like to fund with Direct Giving dollars is getting new mobile desks and wifi adapters for each teacher (in collaboration with PTA). The Foundation has agreed to provide the "tech" part of this project (the wifi adapters) that enable teachers to connect their laptops to their board projectors wirelessly as they move about the room. We anticipate this costing between $5,000 - $10,000, depending on the exact product needed to fit school specifications. We also hope to fund the upcoming renewals for Flocabulary, BreakoutEDU, & Generation Genius (over $10,000 combined). So we need your support!
Plus - the Foundation has some amazing incentives for Direct Giving donors, including 1 remaining Reserved Parking space! Please donate now if you can.
This Month - Classroom Grants, Backup Headphones, & Spirit Shirts - oh my!
We're thrilled to announce that we're kicking off the new schoolyear by providing:
- Grants to ALL classrooms - including extra funds for Specials, ESOL, TAG, EIP, SEC3, & Counseling!
- Backup Headphone Sets for all homerooms and select Specials
- Renewal of the XtraMath app for all students
- FREE Spirit Shirts for the entire school!
Grants were distributed to teachers in the form of Lakeshore Learning or Staples gift cards (teachers' choice). Each homeroom received $100 and Specials, et. al. received $200 per department. We can't wait to see what exciting new "wish list" resources and projects these funds will make possible!
While families are still expected to provide students with their own set of Schoolphones, we all know that "things happen" - that's why we're donating a backup set of 6 Schoolphones headphones to each homeroom, plus select Specials!
We're also renewing the popular math facts app, XtraMath, for another year. It's used throughout the school for math fluency practice, and families can access it at home anytime through Classlink.
Finally, the Foundation's "Make a Splash" Spirit Shirts have been distributed to all grades - your child may have brought theirs home already! (If not, you should receive it no later than your Curriculum Night.) Students use these shirts THROUGHOUT THE YEAR for special events like field trips, Fun Run, Field Day, and more - so please keep track of them, as replacements may not be available. Big thanks to our wonderful '24-25 Sponsors for making them possible!
Cafeteria Sound Cloud Updates
Many families have been wondering, "Where are the Sound Clouds?" Rest assured, the Foundation has been working hard on this project behind the scenes, and all money raised for this project is still earmarked and on hand to fund it, when ready.
The reality is that larger, more complex projects like this are not always "shovel-ready" if and when funds are available...we have to ensure we get the funds needed and have an idea of our budget first, before we engage with vendors.
Most of all - the Foundation feels that it's imperative to be good stewards of the money we receive, and we want this project to achieve the vision and value we anticipated for our school. As much as we'd hoped to begin installation during the '23-24 schoolyear, we feel strongly that it's better to take the time to get it right, rather than rush to meet an aspirational deadline.
The first three vendors we engaged unfortunately did not quite meet expectations, and this summer we began exploring other options. We're now working with a new vendor who was recommended by a local commercial interior designer, and has shown a real understanding of our needs and budget. We will be working with them on design drawings soon.
As a side note, since the entire school (including cafeteria) was repainted this summer, this timeline has actually worked in our favor - we avoided the risk of any paint damage to new products, or having to remove and re-install them.
We can't wait to present the results of this project to you, and we thank you for your patience in the meantime. And if you have experience in construction or commercial buildings, and you're interested in helping with this project or others in the future - contact us today!
